Journal ArticleDOI
Global burden of NAFLD and NASH: trends, predictions, risk factors and prevention
Zobair M. Younossi,Quentin M. Anstee,Milena Marietti,Timothy Hardy,Timothy Hardy,Linda Henry,Mohammed Eslam,Jacob George,Elisabetta Bugianesi +8 more
TL;DR: The large number of patients with NAFLD with potential for progressive liver disease creates challenges for screening, as the diagnosis of NASH necessitates invasive liver biopsy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Altered amino acid concentrations in NAFLD: Impact of obesity and insulin resistance
Melania Gaggini,Fabrizia Carli,Chiara Rosso,Emma Buzzigoli,Milena Marietti,Veronica Della Latta,Demetrio Ciociaro,Maria Lorena Abate,Roberto Gambino,Maurizio Cassader,Elisabetta Bugianesi,Amalia Gastaldelli +11 more
TL;DR: Increased plasma AA concentrations were observed mainly in subjects with obesity and NAFLD, likely as a consequence of increased IR and protein catabolism, and the GSG‐index is a possible marker of severity of liver disease independent of body mass index.
Journal ArticleDOI
Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and Extra-Hepatic Cancers
TL;DR: This review critically appraise key studies on NAFLD-associated extra-hepatic cancers and speculate on howNAFLD may influence carcinogenesis at these sites.
Journal ArticleDOI
Crosstalk between adipose tissue insulin resistance and liver macrophages in Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease
Chiara Rosso,Konstantin Kazankov,Ramy Younes,Saeed Esmaili,Milena Marietti,Marco Sacco,Fabrizia Carli,Melania Gaggini,Federico Salomone,Holger Jon Møller,Maria Lorena Abate,Hendrik Vilstrup,Amalia Gastaldelli,Jacob George,Henning Grønbæk,Elisabetta Bugianesi +15 more
TL;DR: The findings may suggest a link between deranged metabolism in the adipose tissue and activation of hepatic macrophages in patients with NAFLD, possibly in response to FFA overflow and independent of obesity and diabetes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lactic acidosis during Entecavir treatment in decompensated hepatitis B virus-related cirrhosis.
TL;DR: This study retrospectively evaluated the emergence of LA uring ETV in a small series of HBV decompensated cirrhotics with igh MELD score and MOF, comparing the results with a second roup of patients with non-HBV decompening cirrhosis and simlar clinical features.
