Journal ArticleDOI
Differentiation Therapy Exerts Antitumor Effects on Stem-like Glioma Cells
Benito Campos,Feng Wan,Feng Wan,Mohammad Farhadi,Aurélie Ernst,Felix Zeppernick,Katrin E. Tagscherer,Rezvan Ahmadi,Jennifer Lohr,Christine Dictus,Georg Gdynia,Stephanie E. Combs,Violaine Goidts,Burkhard Helmke,Volker Eckstein,Wilfried Roth,Philipp Beckhove,Peter Lichter,Andreas Unterberg,Bernhard Radlwimmer,Christel Herold-Mende +20 more
TL;DR: It is shown that all-trans retinoic acid treatment alone can induce antitumor effects in vivo, and the potential of differentiation treatment to target the stem-like cell population in glioblastoma is highlighted.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cathepsin L is required for endothelial progenitor cell-induced neovascularization.
Carmen Urbich,Christopher Heeschen,Alexandra Aicher,Ken-ichiro Sasaki,Thomas Bruhl,Mohammad Farhadi,Peter Vajkoczy,Wolf K. Hofmann,Christoph Peters,Len A. Pennacchio,Nasreddin Abolmaali,Emmanouil Chavakis,Thomas Reinheckel,Andreas M. Zeiher,Stefanie Dimmeler +14 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that CathL has a critical role in the integration of circulating EPC into ischemic tissue and is required for EPC-mediated neovascularization.
Journal ArticleDOI
Microtumor growth initiates angiogenic sprouting with simultaneous expression of VEGF, VEGF receptor-2, and angiopoietin-2
Peter Vajkoczy,Mohammad Farhadi,Andreas Gaumann,Regina Heidenreich,Ralf Erber,Andreas Wunder,Jörg C. Tonn,Michael D. Menger,Georg Breier +8 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that the established microvasculature of growing tumors is characterized by a continuous vascular remodeling, putatively mediated by the expression of VEGF and Ang-2.
Journal ArticleDOI
Apoptosis-based treatment of glioblastomas with ABT-737, a novel small molecule inhibitor of Bcl-2 family proteins.
Katrin E. Tagscherer,Anne Fassl,Benito Campos,Mohammad Farhadi,A Kraemer,Barbara C. Böck,Stephan Macher-Goeppinger,Bernhard Radlwimmer,Otmar D. Wiestler,Christel Herold-Mende,Wilfried Roth,Wilfried Roth +11 more
TL;DR: Inhibition of proliferation and induction of apoptosis by ABT-737 were less efficient in glioma stem cells than in non-stem cell-likeglioma cells, suggesting that ABT -737 treatment combined with downregulation of Mcl-1 could represent a promising novel approach inglioblastoma treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Combined inhibition of vascular endothelial growth factor and platelet-derived growth factor signaling: effects on the angiogenesis, microcirculation, and growth of orthotopic malignant gliomas.
TL;DR: Targeting of multiple angiogenic signaling pathways by polyvalent tyrosine kinase inhibitors represents a promising strategy to interfere with the vascularization, microcirculation, and growth of angiogenesis-dependent tumors, including malignant gliomas.
