Journal ArticleDOI
ADIPOQ/adiponectin induces cytotoxic autophagy in breast cancer cells through STK11/LKB1-mediated activation of the AMPK-ULK1 axis
Seung J. Chung,Ganji Purnachandra Nagaraju,Arumugam Nagalingam,Nethaji Muniraj,Panjamurthy Kuppusamy,Alyssa Walker,Juhyung Woo,Balázs Győrffy,Ed Gabrielson,Neeraj K. Saxena,Dipali Sharma +10 more
TL;DR: In vitro and in vivo evidence is provided for the integral role of STK11/LKB1-AMPK-ULK1 axis in ADIPOQ/adiponectin-mediated cytotoxic autophagy in breast cancer and for the efficacy of chemotherapeutic agents used in this study.
Journal ArticleDOI
Activation of tumor suppressor LKB1 by honokiol abrogates cancer stem-like phenotype in breast cancer via inhibition of oncogenic Stat3
Sonali Sengupta,Arumugam Nagalingam,Nethaji Muniraj,Michael Y. Bonner,Panagiotis Mistriotis,Alexandros Afthinos,Panjamurthy Kuppusamy,Lanoue D,Soonweng Cho,Preethi Korangath,Marey Shriver,Asma Begum,Vanessa F. Merino,Chiung Yu Huang,Jack L. Arbiser,Jack L. Arbiser,William Matsui,Balázs Győrffy,Konstantinos Konstantopoulos,Saraswati Sukumar,Marignani Pa,Neeraj K. Saxena,Dipali Sharma +22 more
TL;DR: The first in vitro and in vivo evidence to support crosstalk between LKB1, Stat3 and pluripotency factors in breast cancer and effective anticancer modulation of this axis with HNK treatment is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Trefoil factor-1 (TFF1) enhances oncogenicity of mammary carcinoma cells.
Naeem Amiry,Xiangjun Kong,Nethaji Muniraj,Nagarajan Kannan,Prudence M. Grandison,Juan Lin,Yulu Yang,Cécile M. Vouyovitch,Sahra Borges,Jo K. Perry,Hichem C. Mertani,Tao Zhu,Dong-Xu Liu,Peter E. Lobie +13 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that forced expression of TFF1 in mammary carcinoma cells resulted in increased total cell number as a consequence of increased cell proliferation and survival and functional antagonism of T FF1 can therefore be considered as a novel therapeutic strategy for mammaries carcinoma.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Procarcinogenic Colon Microbe Promotes Breast Tumorigenesis and Metastatic Progression and Concomitantly Activates Notch and β-Catenin Axes.
Sheetal Parida,Shaoguang Wu,Sumit Siddharth,Guannan Wang,Nethaji Muniraj,Arumugam Nagalingam,Christina Hum,Panagiotis Mistriotis,Haiping Hao,C. Conover Talbot,Konstantinos Konstantopoulos,Kathleen L. Gabrielson,Cynthia L. Sears,Dipali Sharma +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors identified the presence of Bacteroides fragilis in cancerous breast and found that short-term exposure to BFT elicits a BFT memory with long-term implications, functionally mediated by the β-catenin and Notch1 pathways.
Journal ArticleDOI
Regulation of Chemokines and Cytokines by Histone Deacetylases and an Update on Histone Decetylase Inhibitors in Human Diseases
Himavanth R. Gatla,Nethaji Muniraj,Prashanth Thevkar,Siddhartha Yavvari,Sahithi Sukhavasi,Monish Ram Makena +5 more
TL;DR: Understanding exact mechanisms and effector functions of HDACs are urgently needed to selectively inhibit them and to establish better a platform to combat various malignancies.
