Journal ArticleDOI
Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms: predictors of malignant and invasive pathology.
C. Max Schmidt,Patrick B. White,Joshua A. Waters,Constantin T. Yiannoutsos,Oscar W. Cummings,Marshall S. Baker,Thomas J. Howard,Nicholas J. Zyromski,Atilla Nakeeb,John M. DeWitt,Fatih Akisik,Stuart Sherman,Henry A. Pitt,Keith D. Lillemoe +13 more
TL;DR: To lower the rate of invasive pathology, surgery should be recommended for fit patients with main-duct IPMN and for branch- duct IPMN with mural nodularity or positive cytology irrespective of location, distribution, or size.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of hospital volume, surgeon experience, and surgeon volume on patient outcomes after pancreaticoduodenectomy: A single-institution experience
C. Max Schmidt,Olivier Turrini,Purvi Parikh,Michael G. House,Nicholas J. Zyromski,Atilla Nakeeb,Thomas J. Howard,Henry A. Pitt,Keith D. Lillemoe +8 more
TL;DR: Improve in PD outcomes, including mortality, occurred with increased PD volume at a pancreatic center, and surgeon experience remained an important determinant of overall morbidity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fatty pancreas: a factor in postoperative pancreatic fistula.
Abhishek Mathur,Henry A. Pitt,Megan B. Marine,Romil Saxena,C. Max Schmidt,Thomas J. Howard,Attila Nakeeb,Nicholas J. Zyromski,Keith D. Lillemoe +8 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that patients with postoperative pancreatic fistula have increased pancreatic fat and decreased pancreatic fibrosis, blood vessel density, and duct size.
Journal ArticleDOI
A randomized prospective multicenter trial of pancreaticoduodenectomy with and without routine intraperitoneal drainage
George Van Buren,Mark Bloomston,Steven J. Hughes,Jordan M. Winter,Stephen W. Behrman,Nicholas J. Zyromski,Charles M. Vollmer,Vic Velanovich,Taylor S. Riall,Peter Muscarella,Jose G. Trevino,Attila Nakeeb,C. Max Schmidt,Kevin E. Behrns,E. Christopher Ellison,Omar Barakat,Kyle A. Perry,Jeffrey A. Drebin,Michael G. House,Sherif Abdel-Misih,Eric J. Silberfein,Steven B. Goldin,Kimberly M. Brown,Somala Mohammed,Sally E. Hodges,Amy L. McElhany,Mehdi A. Issazadeh,Eunji Jo,Qianxing Mo,William E. Fisher +29 more
TL;DR: This study provides level 1 data, suggesting that elimination of intraperitoneal drainage in all cases of PD increases the frequency and severity of complications.
Journal ArticleDOI
Robotic distal pancreatectomy: cost effective?
Joshua A. Waters,David F. Canal,Eric A. Wiebke,Ryan P. Dumas,Joal D. Beane,Juan R. Aguilar-Saavedra,Chad G. Ball,Michael G. House,Nicholas J. Zyromski,Attila Nakeeb,Henry A. Pitt,Keith D. Lillemoe,C. Max Schmidt +12 more
TL;DR: The data suggest direct hospital costs are comparable among all groups and suggest a shorter length of stay in robotic versus laparoscopic or open approaches, and spleen and vessel preservation rates may improve with a robotic approach at the expense of increased operative time.
