UV index climatology over the United States and Canada from ground‐based and satellite estimates
Vitali Fioletov,Michael G. Kimlin,Nickolay A. Krotkov,L. J. B. McArthur,James B. Kerr,D. I. Wardle,Jay R. Herman,Richard S. Meltzer,Tom W. Mathews,Jussi Kaurola +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented a long-term monthly mean UV index for Canada and United States using information from two sources: from noon erythemal UV estimated from Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer (TOMS) total ozone and reflectivity data and from UV index values derived from observations of global solar radiation, total ozone, dew point, and snow cover.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of Brewer ultraviolet irradiance measurements with total ozone mapping spectrometer satellite retrievals
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compared the results of 10 Canadian Brewer sites with the estimated noon UV irradiance from total ozone mapping spectrometer (TOMS) measurements, and found that the Brewer data are still lower than TOMS-estimated UV irradiances by 9 to 10% on average at all sites except one.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sulfur dioxide vertical column DOAS retrievals from the Ozone Monitoring Instrument: Global observations and comparison to ground-based and satellite data
Nicolas Theys,I. De Smedt,J. van Gent,Thomas Danckaert,Tianxing Wang,Tianxing Wang,François Hendrick,T. Stavrakou,Sophie Bauduin,Lieven Clarisse,Can Li,Can Li,Nickolay A. Krotkov,Huan Yu,Hugues Brenot,M. Van Roozendael +15 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented a new data set of sulfur dioxide (SO2) vertical columns from observations of the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI)/AURA instrument between 2004 and 2013.
Journal ArticleDOI
New-generation NASA Aura Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) volcanic SO 2 dataset: algorithm description, initial results, and continuation with the Suomi-NPP Ozone Mapping and Profiler Suite (OMPS)
TL;DR: The OMSO2VOLCANO dataset as mentioned in this paper uses characteristic features extracted directly from OMI radiances in the spectral fitting, thereby helping to minimize interferences from various geophysical processes and measurement details (e.g., wavelength shift).
Journal ArticleDOI
Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) Aura nitrogen dioxide standard product version 4.0 with improved surface and cloud treatments
Lok N. Lamsal,Lok N. Lamsal,Nickolay A. Krotkov,Alexander Vasilkov,Sergey Marchenko,Wenhan Qin,Eun-Su Yang,Zachary Fasnacht,Joanna Joiner,Sungyeon Choi,David Haffner,William H. Swartz,B. L. Fisher,Eric Bucsela +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a new and improved version (V4.0) of the NASA standard NO 2 product from the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) on the Paula satellite is presented, which enhances the NO 2 data quality through improvements to the air mass factors used in the retrieval algorithm.
