Journal ArticleDOI
238U/235U Systematics in Terrestrial Uranium-Bearing Minerals
TL;DR: By accurately measuring the 238U/235U ratio in a suite of minerals representing a range of tectonic environments, Hiess et al. demonstrate that this ratio is more variable than was previously thought, highlighting the need for a revised approach to radiometric dating.
Journal ArticleDOI
Community‐Derived Standards for LA‐ICP‐MS U‐(Th‐)Pb Geochronology – Uncertainty Propagation, Age Interpretation and Data Reporting
Matthew S.A. Horstwood,Jan Košler,George E. Gehrels,Simon E. Jackson,Noah McLean,Chad Paton,Norman J. Pearson,Keith N. Sircombe,Paul J. Sylvester,Pieter Vermeesch,James F. Bowring,Daniel J. Condon,Blair Schoene +12 more
TL;DR: The LA-ICP-MS U-(Th-)Pb geochronology international community has defined new standards for the determination of U-(th)-Pb ages as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Zircon U-Pb Geochronology Links the End-Triassic Extinction with the Central Atlantic Magmatic Province
Terrence Blackburn,Paul E. Olsen,Samuel A. Bowring,Noah McLean,Dennis V. Kent,Dennis V. Kent,John H. Puffer,Greg McHone,E. Troy Rasbury,Mohammed Et-Touhami +9 more
TL;DR: This chronology demonstrates synchroneity between the earliest volcanism and extinction, tests and corroborates the existing astrochronologic time scale, and shows that the release of magma and associated atmospheric flux occurred in four pulses over about 600,000 years, indicating expansive volcanism even as the biologic recovery was under way.
Journal ArticleDOI
Metrology and traceability of U-Pb isotope dilution geochronology (EARTHTIME Tracer Calibration Part I)
TL;DR: In this article, the results for the preparation and calibration of the U/Pb ratio and isotopic abundances are given, and various sources of uncertainty are discussed and quantified.
Journal ArticleDOI
An algorithm for U-Pb isotope dilution data reduction and uncertainty propagation
TL;DR: This is the publisher's version, also available electronically from "http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com" as discussed by the authors. But it is not available in the UK.
