Inferring interiors and structural history of top-shaped asteroids from external properties of asteroid (101955) Bennu
Yun Zhang,Patrick Michel,Olivier S. Barnouin,James H. Roberts,Michael Daly,Ronald-Louis Ballouz,Kevin J. Walsh,Derek C. Richardson,Christine Hartzell,Dante S. Lauretta +9 more
TL;DR: In this article , the top-shaped rubble-pile asteroid (101955) Bennu was modeled by numerical simulations and the authors showed that low-cohesion and low-friction structures can consistently account for all the known geophysical characteristics of Bennu and explain the absence of moons.
Journal ArticleDOI
Apophis 2029: Decadal Opportunity for the Science of Planetary Defense
Richard P. Binzel,Brent W. Barbee,Olivier S. Barnouin,James F. Bell,Mirel Birlan,A. C. Boley,William F. Bottke,M. Brozovic,Joshua T.S. Cahill,Humberto Campins,Andy Cheng,P. W. Chodas,Terik Daly,William C. Danchi,J. V. DeMartini,Francesca E. DeMeo,Daniel D. Durda,Anthony Freeman,Masatoshi Hirabayashi,Yaeji Kim,Lucy F. Lim,Michael Marsset,Patrick Michel,N. Moskovitz,Michael C. Nolan,Joseph A. Nuth,Ryan S. Park,Alex Parker,Carol A. Raymond,Kim Reh,Derek C. Richardson,Paul Sava,Daniel J. Scheeres,D. Souami,J. Souchay,Jessica M. Sunshine,Patrick A. Taylor,Flaviane Venditti,Anne Virkki,Donald K. Yeomans +39 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors outline the current best understanding, and uncertainties, for scientific advances in the physical study of potentially hazardous asteroids that may be achievable by measuring physical changes of Apophis' spin, surface structure, and/or shape configuration in response to Earth's tidal torques.
Book ChapterDOI
Impact Cratering of Mercury
Clark R. Chapman,David M.H. Baker,Olivier S. Barnouin,Caleb I. Fassett,Simone Marchi,William J. Merline,Lillian R. Ostrach,Louise M. Prockter,Robert G. Strom +8 more
Journal ArticleDOI
Development of image texture analysis technique for boulder distribution measurements: Applications to asteroids Ryugu and Itokawa
Naoya Tanabe,Yuichiro Cho,Eri Tatsumi,Eri Tatsumi,Tatsuki Ebihara,Koki Yumoto,Tatsuhiro Michikami,Hideaki Miyamoto,Tomokatsu Morota,Tomokatsu Morota,Chikatoshi Honda,Patrick Michel,Katharina A. Otto,Olivier S. Barnouin,Kazuo Yoshioka,Hirotaka Sawada,Yasuhiro Yokota,Yasuhiro Yokota,Naoya Sakatani,Masahiro Hayakawa,Rie Honda,Shingo Kameda,Moe Matsuoka,Manabu Yamada,Toru Kouyama,Hidehiko Suzuki,Kazunori Ogawa,Seiji Sugita +27 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a method was proposed to automatically measure the abundance of small boulders (sub-pixel to a few pixels), whose boundaries cannot be recognized with visual inspection, by quantifying the surface radiance variation that occurs during the spinning of the asteroid.
Asteroid (101955) Bennu's Crater Population: Morphologies, Size-Frequency Distribution, and Consequences for Surface Age(s)
E. B. Bierhaus,Olivier S. Barnouin,Timothy J. McCoy,H. C. Connolly,Erica Jawin,Kevin J. Walsh,B. C. Clark,Alan R. Hildebrand,M. G. Daly,Hannah C.M. Susorney,P. Michel,Maurizio Pajola,David Trang,Bashar Rizk,Beth E. Clark,D. N. DellaGiustina,Dante S. Lauretta,Osiris-Rex Team +17 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the OSIRIS-REx team reported that the surface age of the OSIS-Rex system is determined by the number of contacts with the Earth's surface.
