Journal ArticleDOI
High night temperature induces contrasting responses for spikelet fertility, spikelet tissue temperature, flowering characteristics and grain quality in rice
Onoriode Coast,Onoriode Coast,Onoriode Coast,Richard Ellis,Alistair J. Murdoch,Cherryl Quinones,Krishna S.V. Jagadish +6 more
TL;DR: The critical tolerance and escape traits identified, i.e. spikelet cooling, relatively high spikelet fertility, earlier start and peak time of anthesis and shorter spikelet anthesis duration can aid plant breeding programs targeting resilience in warmer climates.
Journal ArticleDOI
Exploring high temperature responses of photosynthesis and respiration to improve heat tolerance in wheat
Bradley C Posch,Buddhima C. Kariyawasam,Helen Bramley,Onoriode Coast,Richard A. Richards,Matthew P. Reynolds,Richard Trethowan,Owen K. Atkin +7 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that further investigation into the response of photosynthesis and respiration to high temperature could present several methods of improving wheat high temperature tolerance.
Journal ArticleDOI
Predicting dark respiration rates of wheat leaves from hyperspectral reflectance.
Onoriode Coast,Shahen Shah,Shahen Shah,Alexander Ivakov,Oorbessy Gaju,Philippa B. Wilson,Bradley C Posch,Callum Bryant,Anna Clarissa A. Negrini,John R. Evans,Anthony G. Condon,Anthony G. Condon,Viridiana Silva-Perez,Viridiana Silva-Perez,Matthew P. Reynolds,Barry J. Pogson,A. Harvey Millar,Robert T. Furbank,Robert T. Furbank,Owen K. Atkin +19 more
TL;DR: This work reports a non-destructive and high-throughput method of estimating Rdark from leaf hyperspectral reflectance data that was derived from leaf Rdark measured by a destructive high- throughput oxygen consumption technique, and suggests that hyperspectrals model prediction of wheat leaf Rdarks is largely independent of leaf N and LMA.
Journal ArticleDOI
The thermal tolerance of photosynthetic tissues: a global systematic review and agenda for future research
Sonya R. Geange,Sonya R. Geange,Sonya R. Geange,Pieter A. Arnold,Alexandra A. Catling,Alexandra A. Catling,Onoriode Coast,Onoriode Coast,Alicia M. Cook,Kelli M. Gowland,Andrea Leigh,Rocco F. Notarnicola,Bradley C Posch,Susanna Venn,Lingling Zhu,Adrienne B. Nicotra +15 more
TL;DR: A systematic review to determine how plant thermal tolerance research is distributed across wild and domesticated plants, growth forms and biomes, and identify crucial knowledge gaps finds that lack of standardised methods and metrics compromises the potential for mechanistic insight.
Journal ArticleDOI
Resilience of rice (Oryza spp.) pollen germination and tube growth to temperature stress.
Onoriode Coast,Onoriode Coast,Alistair J. Murdoch,Richard Ellis,Fiona R. Hay,Krishna S.V. Jagadish +5 more
TL;DR: The parameters Tx(50) and sx in the germination model define new pragmatic criteria for successful and resilient PG, preferable to the more traditional cardinal temperatures.
