Journal ArticleDOI

New evidence for parallel evolution of colour patterns in Malagasy poison frogs (Mantella)

TL;DR: Cytochrome b data is provided for 143 individuals of three species in the Mantella madagascariensis group, including four newly discovered populations, providing further support for the hypothesis that the largely similar uniformly orange colour of the last two species evolved in parallel.
Journal ArticleDOI

Spatial Biodiversity Patterns of Madagascar's Amphibians and Reptiles

TL;DR: It is found that the range sizes of both amphibians and reptiles strongly correlated with body size, and differences between the two groups are explained by the larger body sizes of reptiles.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mitochondrial evidence for distinct phylogeographic units in the endangered Malagasy poison frog Mantella bernhardi.

TL;DR: Estimation of inter‐ and intrapopulation mitochondrial genetic variation of four populations of Mantella bernhardi suggests the existence of important barriers to gene flow, pre‐dating human colonization of Madagascar at about 2000 years ago, in distinct contrast to other Mantella species that show a high degree of haplotype sharing throughout their range.

Which frogs are out there? A preliminary evaluation of survey techniques and identification reliability of Malagasy amphibians

TL;DR: It is suggested that a combination of methods is necessary to obtain a maximum of positively and reliably identified species records in a limited amount of time, and the extreme importance of increasing data verifiability is emphasized.
