Journal ArticleDOI
Predicted strain coverage of a meningococcal multicomponent vaccine (4CMenB) in Europe: a qualitative and quantitative assessment
Ulrich Vogel,Muhamed-Kheir Taha,Julio A. Vázquez,Jamie Findlow,Heike Claus,Paola Stefanelli,Dominique A. Caugant,Paula Kriz,Raquel Abad,Stefania Bambini,Anna Carannante,Ala Eddine Deghmane,Cecilia Fazio,Matthias Frosch,Giacomo Frosi,Stefanie Gilchrist,Marzia Monica Giuliani,Eva Hong,Morgan Ledroit,Pietro Giorgio Lovaglio,Jay Lucidarme,Martin Musilek,Alessandro Muzzi,Jan Oksnes,Fabio Rigat,Luca Orlandi,Maria Stella,Danielle Thompson,Mariagrazia Pizza,Rino Rappuoli,Davide Serruto,Maurizio Comanducci,Giuseppe Boccadifuoco,John J. Donnelly,Duccio Medini,Ray Borrow +35 more
TL;DR: MATS analysis showed that a multicomponent vaccine could protect against a substantial proportion of invasive MenB strains isolated in Europe, however, monitoring of antigen expression will be needed in the future.
Journal ArticleDOI
Distribution of Serogroups and Genotypes among Disease-Associated and Carried Isolates of Neisseria meningitidis from the Czech Republic, Greece, and Norway
Siamak Pour Yazdankhah,Paula Kriz,Georgina Tzanakaki,Jenny Kremastinou,Jitka Kalmusova,Martin Musilek,Torill Alvestad,Keith A. Jolley,Daniel J. Wilson,Noel D. McCarthy,Dominique A. Caugant,Dominique A. Caugant,Martin C. J. Maiden +12 more
TL;DR: Data robustly demonstrated differences in the distribution of meningococcal genotypes in disease and carrier isolates and among countries and indicated that differences in genotype diversity and pathogenicity exist between menedococcal clone complexes.
Journal ArticleDOI
emm typing and validation of provisional M types for group A streptococci.
Richard R. Facklam,Bernard Beall,A Efstratiou,Vincent A. Fischetti,Dwight R. Johnson,Edwin L. Kaplan,Paula Kriz,Marguerite Lovgren,Diana R. Martin,Benjamin Schwartz,Artem A. Totolian,Debra E. Bessen,Susan K. Hollingshead,F Rubin,June R. Scott,Gregory J. Tyrrell +15 more
TL;DR: The development and use of the 5' emm variable region sequencing (emm typing) in relation to the existing serologic typing system and dissemination of new approaches to typing of GAS to the international streptococcal community are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sequence Diversity of the Factor H Binding Protein Vaccine Candidate in Epidemiologically Relevant Strains of Serogroup B Neisseria meningitidis
Ellen Murphy,Lubomira Andrew,Kwok Leung Lee,Deborah A. Dilts,Nunez Lorna Del Pilar,Pamela Fink,Karita Ambrose,Ray Borrow,Jamie Findlow,Muhamed-Kheir Taha,Ala Eddine Deghmane,Paula Kriz,Martin Musilek,Jitka Kalmusova,Dominique A. Caugant,Torill Alvestad,Leonard W. Mayer,Claudio Tavares Sacchi,Claudio Tavares Sacchi,Xin Wang,Diana R. Martin,Anne von Gottberg,Mignon du Plessis,Keith P. Klugman,Annaliesa S. Anderson,Kathrin U. Jansen,Gary W. Zlotnick,Susan K. Hoiseth +27 more
TL;DR: An extensive survey and phylogenetic analysis of the diversity of fhbp genes and predicted protein sequences in invasive clinical isolates obtained in the period 2000-2006 underscores the importance of studying the distribution of the vaccine antigen itself rather than relying on common epidemiological surrogates such as MLST.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lessons from meningococcal carriage studies.
TL;DR: Further investigations of the carrier state are warranted to improve the understanding of the epidemiology and pathogenesis of meningococcal disease, as well as to support the introduction and to measure the impact of mass vaccination.
