Journal ArticleDOI
A randomized trial of normothermic preservation in liver transplantation
D Nasralla,Constantin C. Coussios,Hynek Mergental,M. Zeeshan Akhtar,Andrew J. Butler,Carlo D L Ceresa,Virginia Chiocchia,Susan J Dutton,Juan Carlos García-Valdecasas,Nigel Heaton,Charles Imber,Wayel Jassem,Ina Jochmans,John Karani,Simon R. Knight,Simon R. Knight,Peri Kocabayoglu,Massimo Malagó,Darius F. Mirza,Peter J. Morris,Peter J. Morris,Arvind Pallan,Andreas Paul,Mihai Pavel,M. Thamara P. R. Perera,Jacques Pirenne,R. Ravikumar,Leslie James Russell,Sara Upponi,Christopher J.E. Watson,Annemarie Weissenbacher,Rutger J. Ploeg,Peter J. Friend +32 more
TL;DR: Normothermic machine perfusion of the liver improved early graft function, demonstrated by reduced peak serum aspartate transaminase levels and early allograft dysfunction rates, and improved organ utilization and preservation times, although no differences were seen in graft or patient survival.
Journal ArticleDOI
Free fatty acids repress small heterodimer partner (SHP) activation and adiponectin counteracts bile acid‐induced liver injury in superobese patients with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis
Lars P. Bechmann,Peri Kocabayoglu,Peri Kocabayoglu,Jan-Peter Sowa,Svenja Sydor,Jan Best,Martin Schlattjan,Anja Beilfuss,Johannes Schmitt,Rebekka A. Hannivoort,Rebekka A. Hannivoort,Alpaslan Kilicarslan,Alpaslan Kilicarslan,Christian Rust,Frieder Berr,Oliver Tschopp,Guido Gerken,Scott L. Friedman,Andreas Geier,Ali Canbay +19 more
TL;DR: BA synthesis and serum BA levels correlated with disease severity in NAFLD, while adiponectin is reversely correlated, and early treatment with FXR ligands and/or adiponECTin‐receptor agonists might prevent NASH.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cytokeratin 18-based modification of the MELD score improves prediction of spontaneous survival after acute liver injury.
Lars P. Bechmann,Christoph Jochum,Peri Kocabayoglu,Jan-Peter Sowa,Marco Kassalik,Robert K. Gieseler,Fuat H. Saner,Andreas Paul,Christian Trautwein,Guido Gerken,Ali Canbay +10 more
TL;DR: The CK18 M65-based MELD score has superior sensitivity and specifically predicts survival of ALF patients, and further prospective clinical studies could validate its potential role to predict requirement of LTx in ALf patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
β-PDGF receptor expressed by hepatic stellate cells regulates fibrosis in murine liver injury, but not carcinogenesis
Peri Kocabayoglu,Peri Kocabayoglu,Abigale Lade,Youngmin A. Lee,Ana Cristina Dragomir,Xiaochen Sun,Maria Isabel Fiel,Swan N. Thung,Costica Aloman,Philippe Soriano,Yujin Hoshida,Scott L. Friedman +11 more
TL;DR: Depletion of β-PDGFR in hepatic stellate cells decreased injury and fibrosis in vivo, while its auto-activation accelerated fibrosis, and was significantly associated with a poorer outcome in HCV cirrhosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Major histocompatibility complex class I–related chains A and B (MIC A/B): A novel role in nonalcoholic steatohepatitis
Alisan Kahraman,Martin Schlattjan,Peri Kocabayoglu,Sule Yildiz-Meziletoglu,Matthias Schlensak,Christian D. Fingas,Inga Wedemeyer,Guido Marquitan,Robert K. Gieseler,Hideo A. Baba,Guido Gerken,Ali Canbay +11 more
TL;DR: Therapeutic intervention aimed at reducing MIC A/B levels may beneficially affect the progression of NASH and suggest an important role for MIC A /B in liver injury.
