Journal ArticleDOI

Traditional plant treatments for diabetes. Studies in normal and streptozotocin diabetic mice

TL;DR: It is suggested that certain traditional plant treatments for diabetes, namely agrimony, alfalfa, coriander, eucalyptus and juniper, can retard the development of streptozotocin diabetes in mice.
Journal ArticleDOI

Abnormal plasma glucose and insulin responses in heterozygous lean (ob/+) mice.

TL;DR: An effect of the ob gene on glucose homeostasis in heterozygous lean (ob/+) mice is demonstrated, suggesting that ob/+ mice might prove useful to study factors predisposing to inappropriate hyperglycaemia.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterization of a Novel Glucose-Responsive Insulin-Secreting Cell Line, BRIN-BD11, Produced by Electrofusion

TL;DR: High-performance liquid chromatography analysis demonstrated that insulin was the major product secreted under stimulatory conditions, and western blotting confirmed that BRIN-BD11 cells expressed the GLUT2 glucose transporter, confirming an intact glucose sensing mechanism.
Journal ArticleDOI

Insulin-releasing and insulin-like activity of the traditional anti-diabetic plant Coriandrum sativum (coriander).

TL;DR: The presence of antihyperglycaemic, insulin-releasing and insulin-like activity in Coriandrum sativum is demonstrated and sequential extraction with solvents revealed insulin- releasing activity in hexane and water fractions indicating a possible cumulative effect of more than one extract constituent.
