Journal ArticleDOI
Pleiotrophin regulates the expansion and regeneration of hematopoietic stem cells
Heather A. Himburg,Garrett G. Muramoto,Pamela Daher,Sarah K. Meadows,J. Lauren Russell,Phuong L. Doan,Jen-Tsan Chi,Alice B. Salter,William Lento,Tannishtha Reya,Nelson J. Chao,John P. Chute +11 more
TL;DR: It is shown that pleiotrophin, a neurite outgrowth factor with no known function in hematopoiesis, efficiently promotes HSC expansion in vitro and HSC regeneration in vivo, and is identified as a new regulator of both H SC expansion and regeneration.
Journal ArticleDOI
Epidermal growth factor regulates hematopoietic regeneration after radiation injury
Phuong L. Doan,Heather A. Himburg,Katherine Helms,J. Lauren Russell,Emma Fixsen,Mamle Quarmyne,Jeffrey R. Harris,Divino Deoliviera,Julie M. Sullivan,Nelson J. Chao,Nelson J. Chao,David G. Kirsch,John P. Chute,John P. Chute +13 more
TL;DR: Findings show that EGFR signaling regulates HSC regeneration after myelosuppressive injury, and EGF reduced radiation-induced apoptosis of HSCs and mediated this effect through repression of the proapoptotic protein PUMA.
Journal ArticleDOI
Endothelial progenitor cell infusion induces hematopoietic stem cell reconstitution in vivo.
Alice B. Salter,Sarah K. Meadows,Garrett G. Muramoto,Heather A. Himburg,Phuong L. Doan,Pamela Daher,Lauren Russell,Benny J. Chen,Nelson J. Chao,John P. Chute +9 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that allogeneic EPC infusions can augment hematopoiesis and suggest a relationship between BM microvascular recovery and he matopoietic reconstitution in vivo.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pleiotrophin Regulates the Retention and Self-Renewal of Hematopoietic Stem Cells in the Bone Marrow Vascular Niche
Heather A. Himburg,Jeffrey R. Harris,Takahiro Ito,Pamela Daher,J. Lauren Russell,Mamle Quarmyne,Phuong L. Doan,Katherine Helms,Mai Nakamura,Emma Fixsen,Gonzalo Herradón,Tannishtha Reya,Nelson J. Chao,Sheila Harroch,John P. Chute +14 more
TL;DR: PTN is a secreted component of the BM vascular niche that regulates HSC self-renewal and retention in vivo and was differentially expressed and secreted by BM sinusoidal endothelial cells within the vascular niche.
Journal ArticleDOI
The vascular niche: home for normal and malignant hematopoietic stem cells.
Phuong L. Doan,J.P. Chute +1 more
TL;DR: The anatomic and functional basis supporting the concept of an HSC vascular niche as well as the precise function of endothelial cells, perivascular cells and stromal cells within the niche in regulating HSC fate are summarized.
