GALC Deletions Increase the Risk of Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma: The Role of Mendelian Variants in Complex Disease
Yutao Liu,Jason Gibson,Joshua Wheeler,Lydia Coulter Kwee,Cecile Santiago-Turla,Stephen Akafo,Paul R. Lichter,Douglas E. Gaasterland,Sayoko E. Moroi,Pratap Challa,Leon W. Herndon,Christopher A. Girkin,Donald L. Budenz,Julia E. Richards,R. Rand Allingham,Michael A. Hauser +15 more
TL;DR: This is the first report of a statistically-significant association of a CNV with POAG risk, contributing to a growing body of evidence that CNVs play an important role in complex, inherited disorders.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence of myocilin mutations in adults with primary open-angle glaucoma in Ghana, West Africa.
Pratap Challa,Leon W. Herndon,Michael A. Hauser,Bob Broomer,Margaret A. Pericak-Vance,Ben Ababio-Danso,R. Rand Allingham +6 more
TL;DR: Mutations in myocilin appear to play a limited role in the pathogenesis of POAG in this region of West Africa.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Duplication in Chromosome 4q35 Is Associated with Hereditary Benign Intraepithelial Dyskeratosis
R. Rand Allingham,Ben Seo,Evadnie Rampersaud,M. Bembe,Pratap Challa,Ning-Pu Liu,Tanisha Parrish,Linda A. Karolak,John W. Gilbert,Margaret A. Pericak-Vance,Gordon K. Klintworth,Jeffery M. Vance +11 more
TL;DR: DNA analysis on two large families affected by HBID reveals the presence of a duplication segregating with the disease phenotype that is most likely involved in its causation, and localized the HBID gene to chromosome 4 (4q35) with a peak LOD score of 8.97.
Journal ArticleDOI
Intravitreal anti-VEGF injections reduce aqueous outflow facility in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration
Joanne C Wen,Ester Reina-Torres,Joseph M. Sherwood,Pratap Challa,Katy C. Liu,Guorong Li,Jason Y. Chang,Scott W. Cousins,Stefanie G. Schuman,Priyatham S Mettu,W. Daniel Stamer,Darryl R. Overby,R. Rand Allingham +12 more
TL;DR: Ophthalmologists who administer anti-VEGF injections should be aware of these findings and monitor patients closely for changes in IOP or evidence of glaucoma, especially in those with pre-existing ocular hypertension.
Journal ArticleDOI
Use of a standardized patient satisfaction questionnaire to assess the quality of care provided by ophthalmology residents.
TL;DR: It is found that patients were generally satisfied with resident care, and that differences in patient satisfaction with the interpersonal and communication skills of individual residents can be identified using the PSQ.
