Journal ArticleDOI
Whole-genome sequence of a flatfish provides insights into ZW sex chromosome evolution and adaptation to a benthic lifestyle
Songlin Chen,Guojie Zhang,Changwei Shao,Quanfei Huang,Geng Liu,Pei Zhang,Wentao Song,Na An,Domitille Chalopin,Jean-Nicolas Volff,Yunhan Hong,Qiye Li,Zhenxia Sha,Heling Zhou,Mingshu Xie,Qiulin Yu,Yang Liu,Hui Xiang,Na Wang,Kui Wu,Yang Changgeng,Qian Zhou,Xiaolin Liao,Linfeng Yang,Qiaomu Hu,Jilin Zhang,Liang Meng,Lijun Jin,Yongsheng Tian,Jinmin Lian,Jing-Feng Yang,Guidong Miao,Shanshan Liu,Zhuo Liang,Fang Yan,Yangzhen Li,Bin Sun,Hong Zhang,Jing Zhang,Ying Zhu,Min Du,Yongwei Zhao,Manfred Schartl,Qi-Sheng Tang,Jun Wang +44 more
TL;DR: It is found that massive gene loss occurred in the wake of sex-chromosome 'birth' in Cynoglossus semilaevis, and the sex chromosomes of these fish are derived from the same ancestral vertebrate protochromosome as the avian W and Z chromosomes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Epigenetic modification and inheritance in sexual reversal of fish
Changwei Shao,Qiye Li,Songlin Chen,Pei Zhang,Jinmin Lian,Qiaomu Hu,Bing Sun,Lijun Jin,Shanshan Liu,Zongji Wang,Hongmei Zhao,Zonghui Jin,Zhuo Liang,Yangzhen Li,Qiumei Zheng,Yong Zhang,Jun Wang,Jun Wang,Guojie Zhang +18 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that epigenetic regulation plays multiple crucial roles in sexual reversal of tongue sole fish, and the first clues on the mechanisms behind gene dosage balancing in an organism that undergoes sexual reversal are offered.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cloning and characterization of wnt4a gene and evidence for positive selection in half-smooth tongue sole ( Cynoglossus semilaevis )
TL;DR: Cloned and characterized the full-length half-smooth tongue sole (Cynoglossus semilaevis) wnt4a gene and found that CS-wnt4A expression level was highest in the testis, and gradually increased in the developing gonads until 1 year of age, when it was significantly up-regulated in the gonads after exposure to high temperature.
Journal ArticleDOI
Differences in sex reversion and growth between normal and neomale stock in half-smooth tongue sole, Cynoglossus semilaevis
TL;DR: The results suggest that the slower growth in the neomale offspring is responsible for the high sex reversion ratio (SRR), which was analyzed based on the genotypic and phenotypic female ratios.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of critical sex-biased genes in Andrias davidianus by de novo transcriptome.
TL;DR: RT-qPCR analysis showed the expression profile of ten selected sex-biased genes to be exhibited consistently in male and neomale and in female and neofemale, with the exception of the Amh and TfIIIa genes, which suggested that they may play important roles in A. davidianus sex determination and gonad development.
