Journal ArticleDOI

Residual activity induced by ion bombardment on insulating samples

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the properties of the residual activity induced by protons impinging on quartz, mylar and other insulating materials and suggested a simple mechanism for this process.
Journal ArticleDOI

Swift heavy ion irradiation of Pt nanocrystals: I. shape transformation and dissolution

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of heavy ion irradiation of embedded Pt nanocrystals (NCs) were investigated and it was shown that the shape transformation remains operative despite discontinuous ion tracks in the matrix and exhibits a constant threshold size for elongation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ion irradiation-induced polycrystalline InSb foam

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that amorphous InSb films become polycrystalline foams upon irradiation with 17 MeV Au+7 ions at fluences above 1014 cm−2.
Journal ArticleDOI

Structural characterization of Ge nanocrystals in silica amorphised by ion irradiation

TL;DR: In this article, the authors measured the size and depth distribution of embedded Ge nanocrystals in amorphous silica matrices and found that the embedded Ge NCs are rendered amomorphous at fluences ∼40 times lower than bulk crystalline Ge (c-Ge).
Journal ArticleDOI

Precipitate orientation relationships in Pt-implanted sapphire

TL;DR: Sapphire was implanted with Pt ions at room temperature and at liquid-nitrogen temperature, inducing correspondingly different amounts of accumulated damage in the target crystals as discussed by the authors, depending on whether Pt precipitated from sapphire or from a transition alumina phase that formed in partially amorphized substrates.
