Aerosol lidar intercomparison in the framework of the EARLINET project. 1. Instruments.

TL;DR: In this paper, 19 aerosol lidar systems from 11 European countries were compared and the results were compared for height and ranges with high and low aerosol content, and some systems were additionally compared with sunphotometers and starphotometers.
Journal ArticleDOI

Aerosol lidar intercomparison in the framework of the EARLINET project. 1. Instruments (vol 43, pg 976, 2004)

TL;DR: In the framework of the European Aerosol Research Lidar Network to Establish an Aerosolsol Climatology (EARLINET), 19 aerosol lidar systems from 11 European countries were compared, although some had to be modified to improve their performance.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparison between Backscatter Lidar and Radiosonde Measurements of the Diurnal and Nocturnal Stratification in the Lower Troposphere

TL;DR: In this paper, a collection of boundary layer heights has been derived from measurements performed by a ground-based backscatter lidar in Neuchâtel, Switzerland (47.000°N, 6.967°E, 485 m ASL).
Journal ArticleDOI

Relationships between Ice Water Content and Volume Extinction Coefficient from In Situ Observations for Temperatures from 0° to −86°C: Implications for Spaceborne Lidar Retrievals

TL;DR: In this article, an examination of 2 yr of Cloud-Aerosol Lidar Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observations (CALIPSO) lidar observations and CloudSat cloud radar observations shows that ice clouds at temperatures below about −45°C frequently fall below the CloudSat radar's detection threshold yet are readily detectable by the lidar.
