Journal ArticleDOI

Large carbon sink potential of secondary forests in the Brazilian Amazon to mitigate climate change.

TL;DR: In this paper, the influence of environmental and disturbance on the rate and spatial patterns of regrowth in the Brazilian Amazon using satellite data was quantified and the authors showed that young secondary forests (<20 years) in the west were 60% higher than old-growth forests in the east.
Journal ArticleDOI

Vulnerability of Amazonian forests to repeated droughts

TL;DR: Droughts tend to increase the variance of the photosynthetic capacity of Amazonian forests as based on the minimum and maximum AEVI analysis, which indicates that forests in the twenty-first century are becoming more vulnerable to droughts, with larger areas intensively and negatively responding to water shortage in the region.
Journal ArticleDOI

Tree Crown Delineation Algorithm Based on a Convolutional Neural Network

TL;DR: This study proposes the application of a convolutional neural network—Mask R-CNN algorithm—to perform the tree crown detection and delineation from tropical forests, and results suggest that this algorithm can be used to assist the planning and conduction of forest inventories.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fire responses to the 2010 and 2015/2016 Amazonian droughts

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated fire responses to the 2010 and 2015/2016 Amazonian droughts using a remote sensing data and found that the 2015-2016 drought surpassed the 2010 drought in intensity and extent.
Journal ArticleDOI

Delineation of management zones in agricultural fields using cover–crop biomass estimates from PlanetScope data

TL;DR: Satellite AGB estimates of cover crops can be used as a proxy for generating management zone maps in agricultural fields and can be further refined in the field with any other type of method and data, whenever necessary.
