Journal ArticleDOI
Whole-grain wheat consumption reduces inflammation in a randomized controlled trial on overweight and obese subjects with unhealthy dietary and lifestyle behaviors: role of polyphenols bound to cereal dietary fiber
Paola Vitaglione,Ilario Mennella,Rosalia Ferracane,Angela A. Rivellese,Rosalba Giacco,Danilo Ercolini,Sean M. Gibbons,Antonietta La Storia,Jack A. Gilbert,Satya S. Jonnalagadda,Frank Thielecke,Maria A Gallo,Luca Scalfi,Vincenzo Fogliano +13 more
TL;DR: WG wheat consumption significantly increased excreted FA and circulating DHFA and was associated with baseline low Bifidobacteriales and Bacteroidetes abundances, whereas after WG consumption, it correlated with increased Bacteroids and Firmicutes but reduced Clostridium.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mediterranean diet intervention in overweight and obese subjects lowers plasma cholesterol and causes changes in the gut microbiome and metabolome independently of energy intake
Victoria Meslier,Manolo Laiola,Henrik Munch Roager,Francesca De Filippis,Hugo Roume,Benoit Quinquis,Rosalba Giacco,Ilario Mennella,Rosalia Ferracane,Nicolas Pons,Edoardo Pasolli,Angela A. Rivellese,Lars O. Dragsted,Paola Vitaglione,Stanislav Dusko Ehrlich,Danilo Ercolini +15 more
TL;DR: Switching subjects to an MD while maintaining their energy intake reduced their blood cholesterol and caused multiple changes in their microbiome and metabolome that are relevant in future strategies for the improvement of metabolic health.
Journal ArticleDOI
Occurrence of Beauvericin and Enniatins in Wheat Affected by Fusarium avenaceum Head Blight
TL;DR: This is the first report on the natural cooccurence of beauvericin and enniatins in wheat infected predominantly by F. avenaceum, and the levels of hexadepsipeptide mycotoxins in Finland.
Journal ArticleDOI
Metabolic profile of the bioactive compounds of burdock (Arctium lappa) seeds, roots and leaves.
TL;DR: The bioactive metabolic profile, the antioxidant activity and total phenolic content of burdock (Arctium lappa) seeds, leaves and roots were obtained and the occurrence of some phenolic acids in burdock seeds; arctiin, luteolin and quercetin rhamnoside in burdenside roots was reported for the first time.
Journal ArticleDOI
Factors affecting the production of Trichoderma harzianum secondary metabolites during the interaction with different plant pathogens
Francesco Vinale,Emilio L. Ghisalberti,Krishnapillai Sivasithamparam,Roberta Marra,Alberto Ritieni,Rosalia Ferracane,Sheridan L. Woo,Matteo Lorito +7 more
TL;DR: The in vitro production and antibiotic activities of the major compounds synthesized by Trichoderma harzianum strains T22 and T39 against Leptosphaeria maculans, Phytophthora cinnamomi and Botrytis cinerea were evaluated.
