Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of aspirin and NSAIDs on risk and survival from colorectal cancer
Farhat V N Din,Evropi Theodoratou,Susan M. Farrington,Albert Tenesa,Rebecca A. Barnetson,Rebecca A. Barnetson,Roseanne Cetnarskyj,Lesley A. Stark,Mary Porteous,Harry Campbell,Malcolm G. Dunlop +10 more
TL;DR: This is the first study to demonstrate a protective effect against CRC associated with the lowest dose of aspirin (75 mg per day) after only 5 years use in the general population, and NSAID use prior to CRC diagnosis does not influence survival from the disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diet, environmental factors, and lifestyle underlie the high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in healthy adults in Scotland, and supplementation reduces the proportion that are severely deficient
Lina Zgaga,Lina Zgaga,Evropi Theodoratou,Evropi Theodoratou,Susan M. Farrington,Felix Agakov,Albert Tenesa,Marion Walker,Susan Knox,A. Michael Wallace,Roseanne Cetnarskyj,Geraldine McNeill,Janet Kyle,Mary Porteous,Malcolm G. Dunlop,Harry Campbell,Harry Campbell +16 more
TL;DR: In regions with low UVB exposure, dietary and supplement intake may be much more important than previously thought and consideration should be given to increasing the current recommended dietary allowance of 0-10 μg/d for adults in Scotland.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dietary Vitamin B6 Intake and the Risk of Colorectal Cancer
Evropi Theodoratou,Susan M. Farrington,Albert Tenesa,Geraldine McNeill,Roseanne Cetnarskyj,Rebecca A. Barnetson,Mary Porteous,Malcolm G. Dunlop,Harry Campbell +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, a large case-control study, including 2,028 hospital-based cases and 2,722 population-based controls, was conducted to investigate the associations between dietary and supplementary intake of vitamin B6 and colorectal cancer.
Journal ArticleDOI
Modification of the inverse association between dietary vitamin D intake and colorectal cancer risk by a FokI variant supports a chemoprotective action of Vitamin D intake mediated through VDR binding
Evropi Theodoratou,Susan M. Farrington,Albert Tenesa,Geraldine McNeill,Roseanne Cetnarskyj,Rebecca A. Barnetson,Mary Porteous,Malcolm G. Dunlop,Harry Campbell,Harry Campbell +9 more
TL;DR: The evidence of interaction reported here further supports the inverse association between vitamin D mediated through binding to the VDR and colorectal cancer risk.
Journal ArticleDOI
Statin use and association with colorectal cancer survival and risk: case control study with prescription data linkage
Fatim Lakha,Evropi Theodoratou,Susan M. Farrington,Albert Tenesa,Roseanne Cetnarskyj,Farhat V N Din,Mary Porteous,Malcolm G. Dunlop,Harry Campbell,Harry Campbell +9 more
TL;DR: A statistically significant association between statin intake and CRC risk but not statin Intake and CRC-specific mortality was found, however, the study was insufficiently powered and larger scale studies may be advisable.
