Effects of ELM mitigation coils on energetic particle confinement in ITER steady-state operation
Keiji Tani,Kouji Shinohara,T. Oikawa,Hiroaki Tsutsui,S. Miyamoto,Yoshinori Kusama,Tatsuo Sugie +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of edge-localized mode (ELM) mitigation coils on the loss of NBI-produced fast ions and fusion-produced alpha particles are investigated using an orbit following Monte Carlo code.
Journal ArticleDOI
Current ramps in tokamaks: from present experiments to ITER scenarios
Frederic Imbeaux,V. Basiuk,R.V. Budny,T.A. Casper,Jonathan Citrin,J. Fereira,Atsushi Fukuyama,J. Garcia,Y. Gribov,Nobuhiko Hayashi,J. Hobirk,G. M. D. Hogeweij,Mitsuru Honda,Ian H. Hutchinson,G.L. Zhogolev,C-Mod Team,Diii-D Team,Jet-Efda Contributors,Jt Team,Experts,Itpa "Transport +47 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a set of empirical heat transport models for L-mode (namely, the Bohm-gyroBohm model and scaling based models with a specific fixed radial shape and energy confinement time factors of H96−L = 0.6 or HIPB98 =0.4) has been validated on a multi-machine experimental dataset for predicting the Li dynamics within ± 0.15 accuracy during current ramp-up and ramp-down phases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inter-code comparison benchmark between DINA and TSC for ITER disruption modelling
S. Miyamoto,Akihiko Isayama,I. Bandyopadhyay,Stephen Jardin,R.R. Khayrutdinov,V.E. Lukash,Yoshinori Kusama,Masayoshi Sugihara +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, results of 2D disruption modeling for validation of benchmark ITER scenarios using two established codes (DINA and TSC) are compared and a reasonably good agreement is generally obtained, corroborating the correctness of the results.
Journal ArticleDOI
Simulation of VDE under intervention of vertical stability control and vertical electromagnetic force on the ITER vacuum vessel
S. Miyamoto,Masayoshi Sugihara,K. Shinya,Yuji Nakamura,S. Toshimitsu,V.E. Lukash,R.R. Khayrutdinov,Tatsuo Sugie,Yoshinori Kusama,R. Yoshino +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present an assessment of the force that arises from the ex-vessel vertical stability control in ITER VDEs using a numerical simulation code DINA.
Disruption Impacts and their Mitigation Target Values for ITER Operation and Machine Protection
M. Sugihara,S. Putvinski,D. J. Campbell,S. Carpentier-Chouchana,F. Escourbiac,S. Gerasimov,Y. Gribov,T. C. Hender,T. Hirai,K. Ioki,R. Khayrutdinov,H. Labidi,V.E. Lukash,S. Maruyama,M. Merola,R. TL;DR: In this article, the authors present their recent conclusions on the target values, which an ITER disruption mitigation system (DMS) must ensure, based on the assessment of impacts using physics databases and modeling for the ITER design.
