Journal ArticleDOI
Nucleation control for large, single crystalline domains of monolayer hexagonal boron nitride via Si-doped Fe catalysts.
Sabina Caneva,Robert S. Weatherup,Bernhard C. Bayer,Bernhard C. Bayer,Barry Brennan,Steve J. Spencer,Ken Mingard,Andrea Cabrero-Vilatela,Carsten Baehtz,Andrew J. Pollard,Stephan Hofmann +10 more
TL;DR: A simple thin-film Fe/SiO2/Si catalyst system is used to show that controlled Si diffusion into the Fe catalyst allows exclusive nucleation of monolayer h-BN with very low nucleation densities upon exposure to undiluted borazine.
Journal ArticleDOI
Long-Term Passivation of Strongly Interacting Metals with Single-Layer Graphene
Robert S. Weatherup,Lorenzo D'Arsié,Andrea Cabrero-Vilatela,Sabina Caneva,Raoul Blume,John Robertson,Robert Schloegl,Stephan Hofmann +7 more
TL;DR: A clear rationale for understanding the extent to which two-dimensional materials can protect different substrates is provided and the key implications for applications of these materials as barrier layers to prevent oxidation are highlighted.
Journal ArticleDOI
Controlling Catalyst Bulk Reservoir Effects for Monolayer Hexagonal Boron Nitride CVD
Sabina Caneva,Robert S. Weatherup,Robert S. Weatherup,Bernhard C. Bayer,Bernhard C. Bayer,Raoul Blume,Andrea Cabrero-Vilatela,Philipp Braeuninger-Weimer,Marie-Blandine Martin,Ruizhi Wang,Carsten Baehtz,Robert Schloegl,Jannik C. Meyer,Stephan Hofmann +13 more
TL;DR: An understanding and framework for engineering the catalyst bulk reservoir to optimize the growth process, which is also relevant to other 2D materials and their heterostructures is developed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Towards a general growth model for graphene CVD on transition metal catalysts
Andrea Cabrero-Vilatela,Robert S. Weatherup,Philipp Braeuninger-Weimer,Sabina Caneva,Stephan Hofmann +4 more
TL;DR: A first-order model for graphene CVD on transition metal catalysts that combines kinetic and thermodynamic considerations is developed and experimentally verified.
Journal ArticleDOI
Magnetic tunnel junctions with monolayer hexagonal boron nitride tunnel barriers
Maëlis Piquemal-Banci,Regina Galceran,Sabina Caneva,Marie-Blandine Martin,Robert S. Weatherup,Piran R. Kidambi,Karim Bouzehouane,S. Xavier,Abdelmadjid Anane,Frédéric Petroff,Albert Fert,John Robertson,Stephan Hofmann,Bruno Dlubak,Pierre Seneor +14 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the integration of atomically thin 2D insulating hexagonal boron nitride tunnel barriers into Co/h-BN/Fe magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJ) is described.
