Journal ArticleDOI
Methods for estimating the direct and indirect effect of 10 valent pneumococcal vaccine on nasopharyngeal carriage in children under 2 years in Matiari, Pakistan.
Muhammad Imran Nisar,Fyezah Jehan,Shahira Shahid,Sadia Shakoor,Furqan Kabir,Aneeta Hotwani,Sahrish Muneer,Sheraz Ahmed,Cynthia G. Whitney,Asad Ali,Anita K. M. Zaidi,Anita K. M. Zaidi,Saad B. Omer,Najeeha Talat Iqbal +13 more
TL;DR: Methods for isolating upper airway pneumococcal carriage are described and an innovative approach is used to describe various epidemiological parameters of vaccine effectiveness against carriage.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of candida species by direct inoculation of cornmeal tween™ 80 agar from blood culture bottles: Rapid and cost-effective approach
Noureen Saeed,Madiha Sattar,Sadia Shakoor,Joveria Farooqi,Raunaq Mehboob,Afia Zafar,Kauser Jabeen +6 more
TL;DR: Direct inoculation of CMT agar can easily differentiate common Candida species microscopically on the basis of chlamydospores, blastopores, and arrangement of pseudo hyphae, however, conventional methods including macroscopic/microscopic characteristics and biochemical profile with the aid of API with API 20 AUX would be a better choice for such cases.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Streptococcus pneumoniae lineage usually associated with pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) serotypes is the most common cause of serotype 35B invasive disease in South Africa, following routine use of PCV
Kedibone M. Ndlangisa,Mignon du Plessis,Stephanie W. Lo,Linda de Gouveia,Chrispin Chaguza,Martin Antonio,Brenda Kwambana-Adams,Jennifer E. Cornick,A. Everett,Ron Dagan,Paulina A. Hawkins,Bernard Beall,Alejandra Corso,Samanta Cristine Grassi Almeida,Theresa J. Ochoa,Stephen K Obaro,Sadia Shakoor,Eric S. Donkor,Rebecca A. Titov,Paul Turner,K.L. Ravi Kumar,Rama Kandasamy,Ekaterina Egorova,Margaret Ip,Robert F. Breiman,Keith P. Klugman,Lesley McGee,Stephen D. Bentley,Anne von Gottberg +40 more
TL;DR: The predominance of the GPSC5 lineage within non-vaccine serotype 35B, is possibly unique to South Africa and warrants further molecular surveillance of pneumococci.
Book ChapterDOI
Nosocomial and Healthcare-Associated NTM Infections and Their Control
TL;DR: This chapter explores the relationship of N TM infections with the nosocomial and healthcare environment, predisposing risk factors, and possible preventive measures to control NTM infections in these environments.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sequelae of extrapulmonary tuberculosis after treatment: Addressing patient needs
TL;DR: Patients need to be monitored clinically and supported psychologically, logistically, and socially to return to lead productive lives after extrapulmonary TB infections.
