A human and rhesus macaque interferon-stimulated gene screen reveals ARHGEF3/XPLN as an antiviral gene against hepatitis C virus and other flaviviruses
Connor G G Bamford,Elihu-Aranday Cortes,Ricardo Sanchez-Velazquez,Catrina J. Mullan,Alain Kohl,Arvind H. Patel,Sam J. Wilson,John McLauchlan +7 more
TL;DR: Novel antiviral activity is ascribed to the cellular gene ARHGEF3 that inhibits replication of HCV and other important human viral pathogens belonging to the Flaviviridae, and is conserved between humans and rhesus macaques.

The Timing and Magnitude of the Type I Interferon Response Are Correlated with Disease Tolerance in Arbovirus Infection
Alexandra Hardy,Siddharth Bakshi,Wilhelm Furnon,Oscar A. MacLean,Quan Gu,Margus Varjak,Mariana Varela,Muhamad Afiq Aziz,Andrew Shaw,Rute Maria Pinto,Catrina J. Mullan,Aislynn Taggart,Ana da Silva Filipe,Richard E. Randall,Sam J. Wilson,Meredith Stewart,Massimo Palmarini +16 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors studied bluetongue virus (BTV) as a model system to investigate the mechanisms of virus-host interactions correlating with disease tolerance, and they demonstrated that BTV induces a faster host cell protein synthesis shutoff in primary sheep cells than cow cells, which results in an earlier downregulation of antiviral proteins.
