Journal ArticleDOI
Aldehyde Dehydrogenase 1–Positive Cancer Stem Cells Mediate Metastasis and Poor Clinical Outcome in Inflammatory Breast Cancer
Emmanuelle Charafe-Jauffret,Christophe Ginestier,Flora Iovino,Carole Tarpin,Mark E. Diebel,Benjamin Esterni,Gilles Houvenaeghel,Jean-Marc Extra,François Bertucci,François Bertucci,Jocelyne Jacquemier,Luc Xerri,Luc Xerri,Gabriela Dontu,Giorgio Stassi,Yi Xiao,Sanford H. Barsky,Daniel Birnbaum,Patrice Viens,Max S. Wicha +19 more
TL;DR: AlDH1 expression represents the first independent prognostic marker to predict metastasis and poor patient outcome in IBC and suggests that the metastatic, aggressive behavior of IBC may be mediated by a CSC component that displays ALDH enzymatic activity.
Journal Article
Loss of basement membrane components by invasive tumors but not by their benign counterparts
TL;DR: Highly purified antibodies to two ubiquitous components of basement membrane, type IV collagen and laminin, were applied to both fresh-frozen and formalin-fixed tissue sections of a variety of invasive carcinomas, carcinomas in situ, and their "look-alike" benign counterparts to aid in understanding the pathophysiology of the invasive process and the recognition of its presence in tissue sections.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pten in stromal fibroblasts suppresses mammary epithelial tumours
Anthony J. Trimboli,Carmen Z. Cantemir-Stone,Fu Li,Julie A. Wallace,Anand S. Merchant,Nicholas Creasap,John C. Thompson,Enrico Caserta,Hui Wang,Jean-Leon Chong,Shan Naidu,Guo Wei,Sudarshana M. Robinson,Francois Pepin,Michael Hallett,Morag Park,Michael C. Ostrowski,Gustavo Leone,Gustavo Leone +27 more
TL;DR: The Pten–Ets2 axis is identified as a critical stroma-specific signalling pathway that suppresses mammary epithelial tumours and ameliorated disruption of the tumour microenvironment.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Nature and Evolution of Port Wine Stains: A Computer-assisted Study
TL;DR: Vessel number, mean vessel area, wall thickness, angulation, and luminal erythrocyte content exhibited strong layer to layer correlation within the first .8 mm of tissue beneath the epidermis, indicating homogeneity of vessel characteristics within the lesion.
