Journal ArticleDOI
Toxicity of fuel‐contaminated soil to Antarctic moss and terrestrial algae
TL;DR: Standard toxicity test methods developed for nonvascular plants can be used in future risk assessments, and sensitivity data will contribute to the development of remediation targets for petroleum hydrocarbons to guide remediation activities in Antarctica.
Journal ArticleDOI
Latitudinal Biogeographic Structuring in the Globally Distributed Moss Ceratodon purpureus.
Elisabeth M. Biersma,Elisabeth M. Biersma,Elisabeth M. Biersma,Peter Convey,Rhys Wyber,Sharon A. Robinson,Mark Dowton,Bart Van de Vijver,Bart Van de Vijver,Katrin Linse,Howard Griffiths,Jennifer A. Jackson +11 more
TL;DR: The matrilineal biogeographic structure identified here provides a useful framework for future genetic and developmental studies on bryophytes, and may be relevant to understanding global environmental influences on the biogeography of other organisms with microscopic propagules dispersed by wind.
Journal ArticleDOI
One hundred research questions in conservation physiology for generating actionable evidence to inform conservation policy and practice.
Steven J. Cooke,Jordanna N. Bergman,Christine L. Madliger,Rebecca L. Cramp,John Beardall,Gary Burness,Timothy Clark,Ben Dantzer,Erick de la Barrera,Nann A. Fangue,Craig E. TL;DR: In this article, a set of research questions related to the following: adaptation and phenotypic plasticity; human-induced environmental change; humanwildlife interactions; invasive species; methods, biomarkers and monitoring; policy, engagement and communication; pollution; restoration actions; threatened species; and urban systems.
Journal ArticleDOI
Functional transition in the floral receptacle of the sacred lotus (Nelumbo nucifera): from thermogenesis to photosynthesis
Rebecca E. Miller,Rebecca E. Miller,Rebecca E. Miller,Jennifer R. Watling,Sharon A. Robinson +4 more
TL;DR: Receptacle δ13C before anthesis was similar to that of leaves; consistent with leaf photosynthesis being the source of C for these tissues, suggesting that 14-24% of C in mature receptacles is the result of refixation of respired CO2.
