Risk Profiles and Antithrombotic Treatment of Patients Newly Diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation at Risk of Stroke: Perspectives from the International, Observational, Prospective GARFIELD Registry
Ajay K. Kakkar,Iris Mueller,Jean-Pierre Bassand,David Fitzmaurice,Samuel Z. Goldhaber,Shinya Goto,Sylvia Haas,Werner Hacke,Gregory Y.H. Lip,Lorenzo G. Mantovani,Alexander G.G. Turpie,Martin van Eickels,Frank Misselwitz,Sophie Rushton-Smith,Gloria Kayani,Peter Wilkinson,Freek W.A. Verheugt +16 more
TL;DR: Current observational worldwide data on non-valvular atrial fibrillation, collected at the end of the vitamin K antagonist-only era, indicate that these drugs are frequently not being used according to stroke risk scores and guidelines, with overuse in patients at low risk and underuse in those at high risk of stroke.
Journal ArticleDOI
International longitudinal registry of patients with atrial fibrillation at risk of stroke: Global Anticoagulant Registry in the FIELD (GARFIELD)
Ajay K. Kakkar,Iris Mueller,Jean-Pierre Bassand,David Fitzmaurice,Samuel Z. Goldhaber,Samuel Z. Goldhaber,Shinya Goto,Sylvia Haas,Werner Hacke,Gregory Y.H. Lip,Lorenzo G. Mantovani,Freek W.A. Verheugt,Waheed Jamal,Frank Misselwitz,Sophie Rushton-Smith,Alexander G.G. Turpie +15 more
TL;DR: The GARFIELD registry will provide valuable insights into the clinical management and related outcomes of AF patients throughout many regions of the world and across the spectrum of healthcare systems.
Journal ArticleDOI
Risk factors for treatment failure with antiosteoporosis medication: the global longitudinal study of osteoporosis in women (GLOW).
Adolfo Diez-Perez,Jonathan D. Adachi,Silvano Adami,Frederick A. Anderson,Steven Boonen,Roland Chapurlat,Juliet E. Compston,Cyrus Cooper,Stephen H. Gehlbach,Susan L. Greenspan,Frederick H. Hooven,Andrea Z. LaCroix,Jeri W. Nieves,J. Coen Netelenbos,Johannes Pfeilschifter,Maurizio Rossini,Christian Roux,Kenneth G. Saag,Stuart L. Silverman,Ethel S. Siris,Allison Wyman,Sophie Rushton-Smith,Nelson B. Watts +22 more
TL;DR: Risk factors for treatment failure, defined as sustaining two or more fractures while on AOM, and specific strategies for fracture prevention should be developed for this subgroup of patients are analyzed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Predictive ability of HAS-BLED, HEMORR2HAGES, and ATRIA bleeding risk scores in patients with atrial fibrillation. A French nationwide cross-sectional study.
Laurent Fauchier,Gwendoline Chaize,Anne-Françoise Gaudin,Alexandre Vainchtock,Sophie Rushton-Smith,François-Emery Cotté +5 more
TL;DR: Given its simplicity and similar performance, HAS-BLED may be an attractive alternative to HEMORR2HAGES for estimation of bleeding risk in AF patients <80years, however, accurate determination of bleedingrisk among the elderly is difficult with existing risk-prediction scores, indicating a clear need for improvement in their clinical utility.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characteristics, practice patterns, and outcomes in patients with acute hypertension: European registry for Studying the Treatment of Acute hyperTension (Euro-STAT).
Alain Vuylsteke,Jean Louis Vincent,Didier Payen de La Garanderie,Frederick A. Anderson,Leigh A. Emery,Allison Wyman,Sophie Rushton-Smith,Joel M. Gore +7 more
TL;DR: High blood pressure requiring intravenous therapy is currently managed with a variety of agents in Europe, with those most commonly used being nitroglycerine, urapidil and clonidine.
