Do Cryptic Reservoirs Threaten Gambiense-Sleeping Sickness Elimination?
Philippe Büscher,Jean-Mathieu Bart,Marleen Boelaert,Bruno Bucheton,Giuliano Cecchi,Nakul Chitnis,Nakul Chitnis,David Courtin,Luisa M. Figueiredo,José-Ramon Franco,Pascal Grébaut,Epco Hasker,Hamidou Ilboudo,Vincent Jamonneau,Mathurin Koffi,Veerle Lejon,Annette MacLeod,Justin Masumu,Enock Matovu,Raffaele C. Mattioli,Harry Noyes,Albert Picado,Kat S. Rock,Brice Rotureau,Gustave Simo,Sophie Thevenon,Sandra Trindade,Philippe Truc,Nick Van Reet +28 more
TL;DR: It is argued that a better understanding of the contribution of human and putative animal reservoirs to gambiense-HAT epidemiology is mandatory to inform elimination strategies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Population Structuring of Glossina palpalis gambiensis (Diptera: Glossinidae) According to Landscape Fragmentation in the Mouhoun River, Burkina Faso
Jérémy Bouyer,Sophie Ravel,Jean-Pierre Dujardin,Thierry De Meeûs,Laurence Vial,Sophie Thevenon,Laure Guerrini,Issa Sidibé,Philippe Solano +8 more
TL;DR: Wing geometry revealed significant centroid size and shape differences between populations, especially between the two most distant populations, and there was a positive correlation in females between metric distances (wing shape differences) and geographic distances that might be attributed to the cline of environmental conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI
First outbreak of Trypanosoma evansi in camels in metropolitan France
Marc Desquesnes,Géraldine Bossard,Delphine Patrel,Stéphane Herder,Olivier Patout,Elisabeth Lepetitcolin,Sophie Thevenon,David Berthier,Djamila Pavlovic,R. Brugidou,Philippe Jacquiet,F. Schelcher,Bernard Faye,Louis Touratier,Gérard Cuny +14 more
TL;DR: The first outbreak of trypanosomosis caused by Trypanosoma evansi in camels in France was reported on a farm in the Aveyron Department and the parasite was probably transmitted by tabanids and Stomoxys calcitrans, which were abundant in July to September 2006.
Journal ArticleDOI
Population sizes and dispersal pattern of tsetse flies : rolling on the river ?
Jérémy Bouyer,Thomas Balenghien,Sophie Ravel,Laurence Vial,Issa Sidibé,Sophie Thevenon,Philippe Solano,T. De Meeûs,T. De Meeûs +8 more
TL;DR: To estimate ecological parameters of wild animal populations, genetic measures are both a cost‐ and time‐effective alternative to mark–release–recapture and can be applied to other vector‐borne diseases of medical and/or economic importance.
Journal ArticleDOI
Selection assisted by a BoLA-DR/DQ haplotype against susceptibility to bovine dermatophilosis
Jean-Charles Maillard,David Berthier,Isabelle Chantal,Sophie Thevenon,Issa Sidibé,Frederic Stachurski,Désiré Belemsaga,Hanta Razafindraibe,Jean-Michel Elsen +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a successful eugenic selection procedure for zebu Brahman cattle in Martinique (FWI) was developed, based on a genetic marker system targeting the highly polymorphic BoLA locus, eliminating only those individuals which are at the highest risk of contracting the disease.
