Multivariate and univariate asymmetrical analyses in environmental impact assessment: a case study of Mediterranean subtidal sessile assemblages

TL;DR: The purpose of this paper is to illustrate the comparison of vari- ance components for the assessment of impacts and the use of recently developed multivariate methods (distance-based premutational MANOVA) in the analysis of multivariate species data in response to a complex asymmetrical design.
Journal ArticleDOI

Taxonomic sufficiency and the increasing insufficiency of taxonomic expertise.

TL;DR: The use of TS in environmental impact studies and the effects of TS on sampling procedures and data analyses are reviewed and the risk of possible loss of information depending on TS and the studied environment are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Beta diversity and taxonomic sufficiency: Do higher-level taxa reflect heterogeneity in species composition?

TL;DR: The results suggest that either genera or families may be used as effective taxonomic surrogates to detect spatial differences in β-diversity for molluscs, although a degree of caution is needed, as heterogeneity at the species level may not be reflected by taxonomic surrogateates at smaller spatial scales.
