Multivariate and univariate asymmetrical analyses in environmental impact assessment: a case study of Mediterranean subtidal sessile assemblages
Antonio Terlizzi,Lisandro Benedetti-Cecchi,Stanislao Bevilacqua,Simonetta Fraschetti,Paolo Guidetti,Marti J. Anderson +5 more
TL;DR: The purpose of this paper is to illustrate the comparison of vari- ance components for the assessment of impacts and the use of recently developed multivariate methods (distance-based premutational MANOVA) in the analysis of multivariate species data in response to a complex asymmetrical design.
Journal ArticleDOI
Taxonomic sufficiency and the increasing insufficiency of taxonomic expertise.
TL;DR: The use of TS in environmental impact studies and the effects of TS on sampling procedures and data analyses are reviewed and the risk of possible loss of information depending on TS and the studied environment are discussed.
Book ChapterDOI
Mediterranean Bioconstructions Along the Italian Coast
Gianmarco Ingrosso,Marco Abbiati,Fabio Badalamenti,Giorgio Bavestrello,Genuario Belmonte,Rita Cannas,Lisandro Benedetti-Cecchi,Marco Bertolino,Stanislao Bevilacqua,Carlo Nike Bianchi,Marzia Bo,Elisa Boscari,Frine Cardone,Riccardo Cattaneo-Vietti,Alessandro Cau,Carlo Cerrano,Renato Chemello,Giovanni Chimienti,Leonardo Congiu,Giuseppe Corriero,Federica Costantini,Francesco De Leo,Luigia Donnarumma,Annalisa Falace,Simonetta Fraschetti,Adriana Giangrande,Maria Flavia Gravina,Giuseppe Guarnieri,Francesco Mastrototaro,Marco Milazzo,Carla Morri,Luigi Musco,Laura Pezzolesi,Stefano Piraino,Fiorella Prada,Massimo Ponti,Fabio Rindi,Giovanni Fulvio Russo,Roberto Sandulli,Adriana Villamor,Lorenzo Zane,Ferdinando Boero +41 more
TL;DR: The study of bioconstructions requires a holistic approach leading to a better understanding of their ecology and the application of more insightful management and conservation measures at basin scale, within ecologically coherent units based on connectivity: the cells of ecosystem functioning.
Journal ArticleDOI
Beta diversity and taxonomic sufficiency: Do higher-level taxa reflect heterogeneity in species composition?
Antonio Terlizzi,Marti J. Anderson,Stanislao Bevilacqua,Simonetta Fraschetti,Maria Włodarska-Kowalczuk,Kari E. Ellingsen +5 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that either genera or families may be used as effective taxonomic surrogates to detect spatial differences in β-diversity for molluscs, although a degree of caution is needed, as heterogeneity at the species level may not be reflected by taxonomic surrogateates at smaller spatial scales.
Journal ArticleDOI
A review of the combined effects of climate change and other local human stressors on the marine environment
Elena Gissi,Elisabetta Manea,Antonios D. Mazaris,Simonetta Fraschetti,Vasiliki Almpanidou,Stanislao Bevilacqua,Marta Coll,Giuseppe Guarnieri,Elena Lloret-Lloret,Marta Pascual,Dimitra Petza,Gil Rilov,Maura Schonwald,Vanessa Stelzenmüller,Stelios Katsanevakis +14 more
TL;DR: A systematic review on how cumulative effect assessments have addressed CC in the marine realm investigated at different levels of biological organization ecological responses, functional aspects, and the combined effect of CC and HS suggests that the combined effects ofCC and LS are context-dependent and vary among and within ecosystems.
