Journal ArticleDOI
Plasmid-mediated chloramphenicol resistance in Staphylococcus hyicus.
TL;DR: A small plasmid, encoding resistance to chloramphenicol (Cm) was detected in three of 33 Staphylococcus hyicus strains and it was shown by curing and by transformation to specify resistance to Cm.
Journal ArticleDOI
Detection of the staphylococcal multiresistance gene cfr in Escherichia coli of domestic-animal origin
Yongqiang Wang,Tao He,Stefan Schwarz,D. Zhou,Zhangqi Shen,Congming Wu,L. Ma,Qijing Zhang,Jianzhong Shen +8 more
TL;DR: This is the first report of the cfr gene in a naturally occurring E. coli strain found in domestic animals and the transferability of c fr gene was tested by conjugation and transformation, and the regions flanking the cFr gene were sequenced by a modified random primer walking strategy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of a plasmid-borne resistance gene cluster comprising the resistance genes erm(T), dfrK, and tet(L) in a porcine methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus ST398 strain.
Kristina Kadlec,Stefan Schwarz +1 more
TL;DR: A plasmid-borne resistance gene cluster comprising the genes erm(T) for macrolide-lincosamide-streptogramin B resistance, dfrK for trimethoprim resistance, and tet(L) for tetracycline resistance was identified in a porcine methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus sequence type 398 (ST398) strain this article.
Journal ArticleDOI
Emergence of Antimicrobial-Resistant Escherichia coli of Animal Origin Spreading in Humans
David Skurnik,Olivier Clermont,Thomas Guillard,Adrien Launay,Adrien Launay,Olga Danilchanka,Stéphanie Pons,Laure Diancourt,Francois Lebreton,Kristina Kadlec,Damien Roux,Deming Jiang,Sara Dion,Sara Dion,Hugues Aschard,Maurice Denamur,Maurice Denamur,Colette Cywes-Bentley,Stefan Schwarz,Olivier Tenaillon,Olivier Tenaillon,Antoine Andremont,Bertrand Picard,John J. Mekalanos,Sylvain Brisse,Erick Denamur +25 more
TL;DR: The data confirm the predominant role of human activities in the emergence of antimicrobial resistance in the environmental bacterial strains and unveil a particular E. coli clonal complex of animal origin capable of spreading antimicrobial Resistance to other members of microbial communities.
Journal ArticleDOI
Methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus ST398-t571 harbouring the macrolide–lincosamide–streptogramin B resistance gene erm(T) in Belgian hospitals
TL;DR: The ML-streptogramin B ('MLS(B)') resistance genes erm(A) or erm (C) were detected in the majority of ML-resistant MRSA and MSSA isolates.
