Conservation biological control and enemy diversity on a landscape scale
Teja Tscharntke,Riccardo Bommarco,Yann Clough,Thomas O. Crist,David Kleijn,Tatyana A. Rand,Jason M. Tylianakis,Saskya van Nouhuys,Saskya van Nouhuys,Stefan Vidal +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a landscape management perspective for conservation biological control in agroecosystems, where most arthropod species experience their habitat at spatial scales beyond the plot level, and there is spillover of natural enemies across the crop-noncrop interface.
Conservation biological control and enemy diversity on a landscape scale [Erratum: 2008 May, v. 45, issue 2, p. 238-253.]
Teja Tscharntke,Riccardo Bommarco,Yann Clough,Thomas O. Crist,David Kleijn,Tatyana A. Rand,Jason M. Tylianakis,S. Van Nouhuys,Stefan Vidal +8 more
TL;DR: Complex landscapes characterized by highly connected crop–noncrop mosaics may be best for long-term conservation biological control and sustainable crop production, but experimental evidence for detailed recommendations to design the composition and configuration of agricultural landscapes that maintain a diversity of generalist and specialist natural enemies is still needed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Combining high biodiversity with high yields in tropical agroforests
Yann Clough,Jan Barkmann,Jana Juhrbandt,Michael Kessler,Thomas C. Wanger,Thomas C. Wanger,Thomas C. Wanger,Alam Anshary,Damayanti Buchori,Damayanti Buchori,Daniele Cicuzza,Kevin Darras,Kevin Darras,Dadang Dwi Putra,Stefan Erasmi,Ramadhanil Pitopang,Carsten Schmidt,Christian H. Schulze,Dominik Seidel,Ingolf Steffan-Dewenter,Kathrin Stenchly,Stefan Vidal,Maria Weist,Arno Wielgoss,Arno Wielgoss,Teja Tscharntke +25 more
TL;DR: This work integrates biodiversity and crop productivity data for smallholder cacao in Indonesia to exemplify for tropical agroforests that there is little relationship between yield and biodiversity under current management, opening substantial opportunities for wildlife-friendly management.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of inoculation method and plant growth medium on endophytic colonization of sorghum by the entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana
Tadele Tefera,Stefan Vidal +1 more
TL;DR: Leaf inoculation with a conidial suspension proved to be the best method to introduce B. bassiana into sorghum leaves for plants growing in either sterile or non-sterile soil.
Journal Article
Entomopathogenic fungi as endophytes: plant-endophyte-herbivore interactions and prospects for use in biological control.
Stefan Vidal,Lara R. Jaber +1 more
TL;DR: It is now evident that entomopathogenic fungi are able to colonize plant tissues as symptomless endophytes, but data published so far are highly variable and not consistent with regard to the underlying mechanisms which would allow explaining these effects.
