Journal ArticleDOI
Sequence analysis of mutations that affect the synthesis, assembly and enzymatic activity of the unc-54 myosin heavy chain of Caenorhabditis elegans.
N. J. Dibb,Daniel M. Brown,Jonathan Karn,Donald G. Moerman,Suzanne L. Bolten,Robert H. Waterston +5 more
TL;DR: The sequence alterations of the missense mutations (e1152, s74, s95) indicated amino acid residues that are critical for myosin function, and a comparison of the deletion junctions suggests that the deletions arose by a site-specific mechanism.
Journal ArticleDOI
The genes sup-7 X and sup-5 III of C. elegans suppress amber nonsense mutations via altered transfer RNA.
Norma M. Wills,Raymond F. Gesteland,Jonathan Karn,Leslie Barnett,Suzanne L. Bolten,Robert H. Waterston +5 more
TL;DR: It is shown through in vitro translation studies that tRNA fractions from the suppressor strains, but not wild-type, promote the specific readthrough of amber terminators of three different messenger RNAs.
Journal ArticleDOI
The sup-7(st5) X gene of Caenorhabditis elegans encodes a tRNATrpUAG amber suppressor
TL;DR: This conclusive proof of the nature of sup7(st5) will permit unambiguous interpretation in genetic applications, and the availability of the cloned sequences may allow the sup-7 gene to be used to select for the reintroduction of DNA into C. elegans.
