Journal ArticleDOI
Comparative genomic analysis of the MHC: the evolution of class I duplication blocks, diversity and complexity from shark to man
TL;DR: A complex MHC structure for mammals and a relatively simpler design for nonmammalian animals with a hypothetical prototypic structure for the shark is revealed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparative sequencing of human and chimpanzee MHC class I regions unveils insertions/deletions as the major path to genomic divergence
Tatsuya Anzai,Takashi Shiina,Natsuki Kimura,Kazuyo Yanagiya,Sakae Kohara,Atsuko Shigenari,Tetsushi Yamagata,Jerzy K. Kulski,Taeko K. Naruse,Yoshifumi Fujimori,Yasuhito Fukuzumi,Masaaki Yamazaki,Hiroyuki Tashiro,Chie Iwamoto,Yumi Umehara,Tadashi Imanishi,Alice Meyer,Kazuho Ikeo,Takashi Gojobori,Seiamak Bahram,Hidetoshi Inoko +20 more
TL;DR: A large-scale single-contig comparison between human and chimpanzee genomes via the sequence analysis of almost one-half of the immunologically critical MHC was performed in this article.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rapid Evolution of Major Histocompatibility Complex Class I Genes in Primates Generates New Disease Alleles in Humans via Hitchhiking Diversity
Takashi Shiina,Masao Ota,Sayoko Shimizu,Yoshihiko Katsuyama,Nami Hashimoto,Miwa Takasu,Tatsuya Anzai,Jerzy K. Kulski,Jerzy K. Kulski,Eri Kikkawa,Taeko Naruse,Natsuki Kimura,Kazuyo Yanagiya,Atsushi Watanabe,Kazuyoshi Hosomichi,Sakae Kohara,Chie Iwamoto,Yumi Umehara,Alice Meyer,Valérie Wanner,Kazumi Sano,Cécile Macquin,Kazuho Ikeo,Katsushi Tokunaga,Takashi Gojobori,Hidetoshi Inoko,Seiamak Bahram +26 more
TL;DR: The overrepresentation of a fraction of these hvSNV (hv1SNV) along with hsSNV, as compared to those that appear to have been maintained throughout primate evolution, tends to establish that the majority of the MHC polymorphism is de novo (species specific).
Journal ArticleDOI
Rhesus Macaque Class I Duplicon Structures, Organization and Evolution within the Alpha Block of the Major Histocompatibility Complex
TL;DR: The Mamu/Patr/HLA-F ortholog was the first MHC class I gene to have been fixed without further duplication within the alpha block of primates.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genomic evolution of MHC class I region in primates
Kaoru Fukami-Kobayashi,Takashi Shiina,Tatsuya Anzai,Kazumi Sano,Masaaki Yamazaki,Hidetoshi Inoko,Yoshio Tateno +6 more
TL;DR: The result indicates that rhesus monkeys, and possibly the Old World monkeys in general, diverged from humans 27-30 Myr ago, and support the inference that MHC-B and M HC-C duplicated after the divergence between apes and Old World monkey.
