The automated multiwavelength Raman polarization and water-vapor lidar Polly XT : the neXT generation
Ronny Engelmann,Thomas Kanitz,Holger Baars,Birgit Heese,Dietrich Althausen,Annett Skupin,Ulla Wandinger,Mika Komppula,Iwona S. Stachlewska,Vassilis Amiridis,Eleni Marinou,Ina Mattis,Holger Linné,Albert Ansmann +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present recent changes of the setup of the portable multiwavelength Raman and polarization lidar PollyXT and discuss the improved capabilities of the system by means of a case study.
Journal ArticleDOI
An overview of the first decade of Polly NET : an emerging network of automated Raman-polarization lidars for continuous aerosol profiling
Holger Baars,Thomas Kanitz,Thomas Kanitz,Ronny Engelmann,Dietrich Althausen,Birgit Heese,Mika Komppula,Jana Preißler,Matthias Tesche,Matthias Tesche,Albert Ansmann,Ulla Wandinger,Jae-Hyun Lim,Joon Young Ahn,Iwona S. Rohwer,Ruru Deng,Rodanthi-Elisavet Mamouri,Felix Zamorano +49 more
TL;DR: PollyNET as mentioned in this paper consists of portable, remote-controlled multiwavelength-polarization-Raman lidars (Polly) for automated and continuous 24/7 observations of clouds and aerosols.
Journal ArticleDOI
Contrasting the impact of aerosols at northern and southern midlatitudes on heterogeneous ice formation
Thomas Kanitz,Patric Seifert,Albert Ansmann,Ronny Engelmann,Dietrich Althausen,C. Casiccia,Erich G. Rohwer +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the occurrence of heterogeneous ice formation (as a function of cloud top temperature) for very different aerosol conditions in the northern and southern hemisphere is investigated, and large differences in the heterogeneous freezing behavior in mostly layered clouds are found.
Journal ArticleDOI
Volcanic aerosol layers observed with multiwavelength Raman lidar over central Europe in 2008–2009
Ina Mattis,Patric Siefert,Detlef Müller,Detlef Müller,Matthias Tesche,Anja Hiebsch,Thomas Kanitz,Jörg Schmidt,Fanny Finger,Ulla Wandinger,Albert Ansmann +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a multi-wavelength aerosol Raman lidar was used to detect volcanic aerosol in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere of the European Aerosol Research Lidar Network (EARLINET).
