Community-acquired methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus carrying panton-valentine leukocidin genes: worldwide emergence
François Vandenesch,Timothy S. Naimi,Mark C. Enright,Gerard Lina,Graeme R. Nimmo,Helen Heffernan,Nadia Liassine,Michèle Bes,Timothy Greenland,Reverdy Me,Jerome Etienne +10 more
TL;DR: Analysis of CA-MRSA isolates from the United States, France, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, and Western Samoa indicated distinct genetic backgrounds associated with each geographic origin, although predominantly restricted to the agr3 background.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of community- and health care-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infection.
Timothy S. Naimi,Kathleen H. LeDell,Kathryn Como-Sabetti,Stephanie M. Borchardt,David Boxrud,Jerome Etienne,Susan K. Johnson,François Vandenesch,Scott K. Fridkin,Carol O'Boyle,Richard Danila,Ruth Lynfield +11 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that most community-associated MRSA strains did not originate in health care settings, and that their microbiological features may have contributed to their emergence in the community.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genome and virulence determinants of high virulence community-acquired MRSA.
Tadashi Baba,Fumihiko Takeuchi,Makoto Kuroda,Harumi Yuzawa,Ken-ichi Aoki,Akio Oguchi,Yoshimi Nagai,Natsuko Iwama,Kazuyuki Asano,Timothy S. Naimi,Hiroko Kuroda,Longzhu Cui,Kenji Yamamoto,Keiichi Hiramatsu +13 more
TL;DR: The whole genome sequence of MW2, a strain of community-acquired MRSA, was ascertained by shotgun cloning and sequencing and found that it carried a range of virulence and resistance genes that was distinct from those displayed on the chromosomes of extant S aureus strains.
Journal ArticleDOI
Binge drinking among US adults.
Timothy S. Naimi,Robert D. Brewer,Ali H. Mokdad,Clark H. Denny,Mary K. Serdula,James S. Marks +5 more
TL;DR: Binge drinking is common among most strata of US adults, including among those aged 26 years or older, and per capita binge-drinking episodes have increased, particularly since 1995.
Journal ArticleDOI
Binge Drinking and Associated Health Risk Behaviors Among High School Students
TL;DR: Binge drinking is the most common pattern of alcohol consumption among high school youth who drink alcohol and is strongly associated with a wide range of other health risk behaviors.
