Journal ArticleDOI

Adherence of Lactobacillus species to human fetal intestinal cells.

TL;DR: In vitro adherence, combined with subsequent in vivo studies, may provide a basis for screening candidate organisms for use in microbiotic supplements.
Journal ArticleDOI

Genetic Mechanisms of Prebiotic Oligosaccharide Metabolism in Probiotic Microbes

TL;DR: This review highlights recent findings on the genetic mechanisms involved in the utilization of prebiotic fructooligosaccharides, β-galactooligOSaccharide, human milk oligosac charides, and other prebiotics candidates by these probiotic microbes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Microarray Analysis of a Two-Component Regulatory System Involved in Acid Resistance and Proteolytic Activity in Lactobacillus acidophilus

TL;DR: Cotter et al. as mentioned in this paper used a whole-genome microarray containing 97.4% of the annotated genes of L. acidophilus NCFM to compare genome-wide patterns of transcription at various pHs between the control and the histidine protein kinase mutant.
Journal ArticleDOI

Conjugal strategy for construction of fast Acid-producing, bacteriophage-resistant lactic streptococci for use in dairy fermentations.

TL;DR: The conjugal strategy presented here was effective in yielding fast acid-producing, phage-resistant S. cremoris and S. lactis strains without the use of antibiotic resistance markers and without interfering with the acid- producing ability of the recipient strain.
