Journal ArticleDOI
Medulloblastoma can be initiated by deletion of Patched in lineage-restricted progenitors or stem cells.
Zeng-Jie Yang,Tammy Ellis,Shirley L. Markant,Tracy Ann Read,Tracy Ann Read,Jessica D. Kessler,Melissa Bourboulas,Ulrich Schüller,Robert Machold,Gord Fishell,David H. Rowitch,Brandon J. Wainwright,Robert J. Wechsler-Reya +12 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that medulloblastoma can be initiated in progenitors or stem cells but that Shh-induced tumorigenesis is associated with neuronal lineage commitment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Isolation of neural stem cells from the postnatal cerebellum.
Audra Lee,Jessica D. Kessler,Tracy Ann Read,Constanze Kaiser,Denis Corbeil,Wieland B. Huttner,Jane E. Johnson,Robert J. Wechsler-Reya +7 more
TL;DR: It is shown that the murine postnatal cerebellum contains multipotent neural stem cells (NSCs), which can be prospectively isolated based on their expression of the NSC marker prominin-1 (CD133) and their lack of markers of neuronal and glial lineages (lin−).
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of CD15 as a marker for tumor-propagating cells in a mouse model of medulloblastoma.
Tracy Ann Read,Marie P. Fogarty,Shirley L. Markant,Roger E. McLendon,Zhengzheng Wei,David W. Ellison,Phillip G. Febbo,Robert J. Wechsler-Reya +7 more
TL;DR: It is shown that tumors from a model of medulloblastoma, the Patched mutant mouse, are propagated not by CD133(+) cells but by cells expressing the progenitor markers Math1 and CD15/SSEA-1.
Journal ArticleDOI
Local endostatin treatment of gliomas administered by microencapsulated producer cells
Tracy Ann Read,Dag R. Sorensen,Rupavathana Mahesparan,Per Øyvind Enger,Rupert Timpl,Bjorn R. Olsen,Mari H. B. Hjelstuen,Olav Haraldseth,Rolf Bjerkvig +8 more
TL;DR: It is shown that endostatin-transfected cells encapsulated in alginate maintainendostatin secretion for at least four months after intracerebral implantation in rats, and may provide the basis for new therapeutic approaches toward brain tumors.
Journal ArticleDOI
An animal model of MYC-driven medulloblastoma.
Yanxin Pei,Colin E. Moore,Jun Wang,Alok K. Tewari,Alexey Eroshkin,Yoon Jae Cho,Hendrik Witt,Andrey Korshunov,Tracy Ann Read,Julia L. Sun,Earlene M. Schmitt,C. Ryan Miller,Anne F. Buckley,Roger E. McLendon,Thomas F. Westbrook,Thomas F. Westbrook,Paul A. Northcott,Michael D. Taylor,Stefan M. Pfister,Phillip G. Febbo,Robert J. Wechsler-Reya,Robert J. Wechsler-Reya +21 more
TL;DR: It is shown that cerebellar stem cells expressing Myc and mutant Trp53 (p53) generate aggressive tumors following orthotopic transplantation and antagonists of PI3K/mTOR signaling, but not Hedgehog signaling, inhibit growth of tumor cells.
