Neukum +45 more
TL;DR: Global mineralogical mapping of Mars by the Observatoire pour la Mineralogie, l'Eau, les Glaces et l'Activite (OMEGA) instrument on the European Space Agency's Mars Express spacecraft provides new information on Mars' geological and climatic history.
Journal ArticleDOI
Perennial water ice identified in the south polar cap of Mars
Jean-Pierre Bibring,Yves Langevin,François Poulet,Aline Gendrin,B. Gondet,Michel Berthé,A. Soufflot,Pierre Drossart,M. Combes,G. Belluci,V. I. Moroz,Nicolas Mangold,Bernard Schmitt,Stéphane Erard,Olivier Forni,N. Manaud,G. Poulleau,T. Encrenaz,T. Fouchet,R. Melchiorri,Francesca Altieri,Vittorio Formisano,G. Zasova,Patrick Pinet,Christophe Sotin,Ernst Hauber,Harald Hoffmann,Ralf Jaumann,U. Keller,Raymond E. Arvidson,John F. Mustard,Thomas C. Duxbury,François Forget +40 more
TL;DR: This work presents the first direct identification and mapping of both carbon dioxide and water ice in the martian high southern latitudes, at a resolution of 2 km, during the local summer, when the extent of the polar ice is at its minimum.

Arvidson,John F. Mustard,François Forget +42 more
TL;DR: The OMEGA (Observatoire pour la Mineralogie, l'Eau, les Glaces et l'Activite) is a visible and near-IR mapping spectrometer, operating in the spectral range 0.385-1 μm as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Search for Steins' surface inhomogeneities from OSIRIS Rosetta images
C. Leyrat,S. Fornasier,Antonella Barucci,Sara Magrin,Monica Lazzarin,M. Fulchignoni,Laurent Jorda,Irina Belskaya,Simone Marchi,Cesare Barbieri,U. Keller,Holger Sierks,Stubbe F. Hviid +12 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the possible presence of heterogeneous surface features on asteroid (2867) Steins, using the G-mode multivariate statistical method ( Coradini et al., 1977 ) applied to Rosetta/OSIRIS images.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: In this paper, a simplified atmospheric spectral model without scattering was developed for the Mars Express/OMEGA observations, which was used to retrieve the local topography through the analysis of the View the MathML source CO2 band.
