Journal ArticleDOI

Identification of potentially safe promising fungal cell factories for the production of polyketide natural food colorants using chemotaxonomic rationale

TL;DR: 4 out of the 10 chemotaxonomically selected promising Penicillium strains were shown to produce extracellular pigments in the liquid media using a solid support indicating future cell factory possibilities for polyketide natural food colorants.
Journal ArticleDOI

Standardized high-performance liquid chromatography of 182 mycotoxins and other fungal metabolites based on alkylphenone retention indices and UV-VIS spectra (diode array detection)

TL;DR: A general standardized method based on high-performance liquid chromatography with an alkylphenone retention index and photodiode-array detection combined with thin-layer chromatography (TLC) in two different eluents for the analysis of mycotoxins and other fungal secondary metabolites has been developed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Phylogenetic relationships among members of the Fusarium solani species complex in human infections and the descriptions of F. keratoplasticum sp. nov. and F. petroliphilum stat. nov.

TL;DR: Primary metabolite profiles of FSSC species defined through molecular data were compared for the first time and revealed the production of bioactive compounds including cyclosporines and several novel compounds of unknown function.
Journal ArticleDOI

Qualified presumption of safety (QPS): a generic risk assessment approach for biological agents notified to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA)

TL;DR: In this article, the authors outline the implementation and value of the QPS assessment for EFSA and explain its principles such as the unambiguous identity of a taxonomic unit, the body of knowledge including potential safety concerns and how these considerations lead to a list of biological agents recommended for QPS which EFSA keeps updated through an annual scientific review and assessment.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fusaria and fumonisins in maize from Ghana and their co-occurrence with aflatoxins.

TL;DR: Fifteen maize samples from four markets and processing sites in Accra, Ghana were analysed for fumonisins B1, B2, and B3 and revealed a co-occurrence of both Fusarium verticillioides and aflatoxins in 53% of the samples.
