Results from the ERA-EDTA Registry indicate a high mortality due to COVID-19 in dialysis patients and kidney transplant recipients across Europe.
Kitty J Jager,Anneke Kramer,Nicholas C. Chesnaye,Cécile Couchoud,J. Emilio Sánchez-Álvarez,Liliana Garneata,Frederic Collart,Marc H Hemmelder,Patrice M. Ambühl,Julia Kerschbaum,Camille Legeai,María Dolores del Pino y Pino,Gabriel Mircescu,Lionel Mazzoleni,Tiny Hoekstra,Rebecca Winzeler,Gert Mayer,Vianda S. Stel,Christoph Wanner,Carmine Zoccali,Ziad A. Massy +20 more
TL;DR: The pandemic has had a substantial effect on mortality in patients receiving kidney replacement therapy; a highly vulnerable population due to underlying chronic kidney disease and high prevalence of multimorbidity.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: The epidemiology of renal replacement therapy (RRT) for end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in 2016 within 36 countries was described, with the incidence and prevalence higher among men than women, and men had a higher rate of kidney transplantation compared with women.
Journal ArticleDOI
Competing risks analyses: objectives and approaches
Marcel Wolbers,Michael T. Koller,Vianda S. Stel,Beat Schaer,Kitty J. Jager,Karen Leffondré,Georg Heinze +6 more
TL;DR: This work gives a non-technical overview of competing risks concepts for descriptive and regression analyses and introduces regression models for the cumulative incidence function and the cause-specific hazard function, respectively.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diagnostic methods I: sensitivity, specificity, and other measures of accuracy.
Karlijn J. van Stralen,Vianda S. Stel,Johannes B. Reitsma,Friedo W. Dekker,Friedo W. Dekker,Carmine Zoccali,Kitty J. Jager +6 more
TL;DR: This paper focuses on diagnostic tests usefulness by explaining the different measures of accuracy, the interpretation of test results, and the implementation of a diagnostic strategy.
Journal ArticleDOI
An update on renal replacement therapy in Europe: ERA–EDTA Registry data from 1997 to 2006
Anneke Kramer,Vianda S. Stel,Carmine Zoccali,James G. Heaf,David Ansell,Carola Grönhagen-Riska,Torbjørn Leivestad,Keith Simpson,Runolfur Palsson,Maurizio Postorino,Kitty J Jager +10 more
TL;DR: The annual rise of the overall incidence rate of RRT for ESRD has diminished and that in several age groups the incidence rates have now stabilized, and the survival of dialysis patients and kidney transplant recipients has continued to improve.
