Journal ArticleDOI
Cardiovascular and noncardiovascular mortality among patients starting dialysis.
Dinanda J. de Jager,Diana C. Grootendorst,Kitty J Jager,Paul C. W. van Dijk,Lonneke M. J. Tomas,David Ansell,Frederic Collart,Patrik Finne,James G. Heaf,Johan De Meester,Jack F.M. Wetzels,Frits R. Rosendaal,Friedo W. Dekker +12 more
TL;DR: Patients starting dialysis have a generally increased risk of death that is not specifically caused by excess cardiovascular mortality, and this work concludes that high overall mortality in patients starting Dialysis is a consequence of increased cardiovascular mortality risk only or whether noncardiovascular mortality is equally increased.
Journal ArticleDOI
The European Renal Association - European Dialysis and Transplant Association (ERA-EDTA) Registry Annual Report 2016: a summary.
Anneke Kramer,Maria Pippias,Marlies Noordzij,Vianda S. Stel,Anton M. Andrusev,Manuel I Aparicio-Madre,Federico E Arribas Monzón,Anders Åsberg,Myftar Barbullushi,Palma Beltrán,Marjolein Bonthuis,Fergus Caskey,Fergus Caskey,Pablo Castro de la Nuez,Harijs Cernevskis,Johan De Meester,Patrik Finne,Eliezer Golan,James G. Massy,Kitty J Jager +42 more
TL;DR: The epidemiology of renal replacement therapy (RRT) for end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in 2016 within 36 countries was described, with the incidence and prevalence higher among men than women, and men had a higher rate of kidney transplantation compared with women.
Journal ArticleDOI
Listing for lung transplantation: life expectancy and transplant effect, stratified by type of end-stage lung disease, the Eurotransplant experience
TL;DR: The global survival rate, reflecting the real life expectancy for a newly listed transplant candidate, is poor for patients with pulmonary fibrosis and pulmonary hypertension, and allocation algorithms that lessen the impact of waiting time and take into account the type of end-stage lung disease should be developed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Renal replacement therapy for autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) in Europe: prevalence and survival - an analysis of data from the ERA-EDTA Registry
Edwin M. Spithoven,Anneke Kramer,Esther Meijer,Bjarne Orskov,Christoph Wanner,Jose M. Abad,Nuria Areste,Ramón Alonso de la Torre,Fergus Caskey,Cécile Couchoud,Patrik Finne,James G. Heaf,Andries J. Hoitsma,Johan De Meester,Julio Pascual,Maurizio Postorino,Pietro Ravani,Oscar Zurriaga,Kitty J. Jager,Ron T. Gansevoort,Era-Edta Registry,Wgikd +21 more
TL;DR: In ADPKD patients on RRT, survival has improved markedly, especially due to a decrease in cardiovascular mortality, which has led to a considerable increase in the number of AD PKD patients being treated with RRT.
Journal ArticleDOI
The changing trends and outcomes in renal replacement therapy: data from the ERA-EDTA Registry
Maria Pippias,Kitty J. Jager,Anneke Kramer,Torbjørn Leivestad,Manuel Benítez Sánchez,Fergus Caskey,Fergus Caskey,Frederic Collart,Cécile Couchoud,Friedo W. Dekker,Patrik Finne,Denis Fouque,James G Heaf,Marc H Hemmelder,Reinhard Kramar,Johan De Meester,Marlies Noordzij,Runolfur Palsson,Runolfur Palsson,Julio Pascual,Oscar Zurriaga,Christoph Wanner,Vianda S. Stel +22 more
TL;DR: This European study shows a declining RRT incidence, particularly in patients aged 45-64 years, 65-74 years and secondary to diabetic nephropathy, andEncouragingly, the adjusted RRT patient survival continues to improve.
