Journal ArticleDOI
Curcumin reduces renal damage associated with rhabdomyolysis by decreasing ferroptosis-mediated cell death
Melania Guerrero-Hue,Cristina García-Caballero,Alejandra Palomino-Antolín,Alfonso Rubio-Navarro,Cristina Vázquez-Carballo,Carmen Herencia,Diego Martin-Sanchez,Víctor Farré-Alins,Javier Egea,Pablo Cannata,Manuel Praga,Alberto Ortiz,Jesús Egido,Ana Belen Sanz,Juan Antonio Moreno +14 more
TL;DR: These findings are the first to demonstrate the involvement of ferroptosis in rhabdomyolysis‐associated renal damage and its sensitivity to curcumin treatment andCurcumin may be a potential therapeutic approach for patients with this syndrome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multitarget‐Directed Ligands Combining Cholinesterase and Monoamine Oxidase Inhibition with Histamine H3R Antagonism for Neurodegenerative Diseases
Oscar M. Bautista-Aguilera,Stefanie Hagenow,Alejandra Palomino-Antolín,Víctor Farré-Alins,Lhassane Ismaili,Pierre‐Louis Joffrin,María Luisa Jimeno,Ondřej Soukup,Jana Janockova,Lena Kalinowsky,Ewgenij Proschak,Isabel Iriepa,Ignacio Moraleda,Johannes Stephan Schwed,Alejandro Romero Martínez,Francisco López-Muñoz,Mourad Chioua,Javier Egea,Rona R. Ramsay,José Marco-Contelles,Holger Stark +20 more
TL;DR: Contilisant (at 1 mg kg-1 i.p.) also significantly improved lipopolysaccharide-induced cognitive deficits and showed antioxidative neuroprotective effects as well as the ability to penetrate the blood-brain barrier.
Journal ArticleDOI
Early toll-like receptor 4 blockade reduces ROS and inflammation triggered by microglial pro-inflammatory phenotype in rodent and human brain ischaemia models
Esther Parada,Ana I. Casas,Alejandra Palomino-Antolín,Vanessa Gómez-Rangel,Alfonso Rubio-Navarro,Víctor Farré-Alins,Paloma Narros-Fernández,Melania Guerrero-Hue,Juan Antonio Moreno,Juliana M. Rosa,José M. Roda,Borja J. Hernández-García,Javier Egea +12 more
TL;DR: The therapeutic effect of targeting the LPS/TLR4 signal transduction pathway is identified and it is identified that post‐reperfusion inflammation and an up‐regulation of toll‐like receptors 4 are associated with poor outcome in stroke patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Melatonin protects against oxygen and glucose deprivation by decreasing extracellular glutamate and Nox-derived ROS in rat hippocampal slices.
Paloma Patiño,Esther Parada,Víctor Farré-Alins,Simone Molz,Ramón Cacabelos,José Marco-Contelles,Manuela G. López,Carla I. Tasca,Eva Ramos,Alejandro Romero,Javier Egea +10 more
TL;DR: Melatonin afforded maximum protection against glutamate-induced toxicity and reversed the glutamate released almost basal levels, at 10 and 30μM concentration, respectively, and it is proposed that melatonin might strongly and positively influence the outcome of brain ischemia/reperfusion.
Journal ArticleDOI
TLR4 pathway impairs synaptic number and cerebrovascular functions through astrocyte activation following traumatic brain injury
Juliana M. Rosa,Víctor Farré-Alins,María Cristina Ortega,Marta Navarrete,Ana Belen Lopez-Rodriguez,Alejandra Palomino-Antolín,Elena Fernández-López,Virginia Vila-del Sol,Celine Decouty,Paloma Narros-Fernández,Diego Clemente,Javier Egea +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explored how TLR4-induced astrocyte activation modified synapses and cerebrovascular integrity following TBI using live calcium imaging, immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, and molecular and behavioural methods.
