Journal ArticleDOI
Porphyrin–phospholipid liposomes permeabilized by near-infrared light
Kevin A. Carter,Shuai Shao,Matthew I. Hoopes,Dandan Luo,Bilal Ahsan,Vladimir M. Grigoryants,Wentao Song,Haoyuan Huang,Guojian Zhang,Ravindra K. Pandey,Jumin Geng,Blaine A. Pfeifer,Charles P. Scholes,Joaquin Ortega,Mikko Karttunen,Jonathan F. Lovell +15 more
TL;DR: Liposomes doped with porphyrin–phospholipid that are permeabilized directly by near-infrared light are described and spatial and temporal control of release of entrapped fluorophores following intratumoral injection are demonstrated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Emerging applications of porphyrins in photomedicine.
TL;DR: This review examines recent research on porphyrin-derived materials in multimodal imaging, drug delivery, bio-sensing, phototherapy and probe design, demonstrating their bright future for biomedical applications.
Journal ArticleDOI
Size-Tunable and Monodisperse Tm3+/Gd3+-Doped Hexagonal NaYbF4 Nanoparticles with Engineered Efficient Near Infrared-to-Near Infrared Upconversion for In Vivo Imaging
Jossana A. Damasco,Guanying Chen,Guanying Chen,Wei Shao,Wei Shao,Hans Ågren,Haoyuan Huang,Wentao Song,Jonathan F. Lovell,Paras N. Prasad,Paras N. Prasad +10 more
TL;DR: It is found that doping appropriate concentrations of trivalent gadolinium (Gd3+) can convert NaYbF4:Tm3+ 0.5% nanoparticles with cubic phase and irregular shape into highly monodisperse NaYf4: tm3- 0.
Journal ArticleDOI
Methylene blue microbubbles as a model dual-modality contrast agent for ultrasound and activatable photoacoustic imaging
Mansik Jeon,Wentao Song,Elizabeth Huynh,Jung-Ho Kim,Jeesu Kim,Brandon Helfield,Ben Y. C. Leung,David E. Goertz,David E. Goertz,Gang Zheng,Jung-Taek Oh,Jonathan F. Lovell,Chulhong Kim +12 more
TL;DR: Using an MB2 solution that strongly attenuated all photoac acoustic signal, high powered ultrasound could be used to burst the microbubbles and dramatically enhance photoacoustic contrast (>800-fold increase), providing a new method for spatiotemporal control ofphotoacoustic signal generation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Therapeutic surfactant-stripped frozen micelles.
Yumiao Zhang,Wentao Song,Jumin Geng,Upendra Chitgupi,Hande Unsal,Jasmin Federizon,Javid Rzayev,Dinesh K. Sukumaran,Paschalis Alexandridis,Jonathan F. Lovell +9 more
TL;DR: It is shown that Pluronic (Poloxamer) block copolymers are amenable to low-temperature processing to strip away all free and loosely bound surfactant, leaving behind concentrated, kinetically frozen drug micelles containing minimal solubilizing excipient.
