Journal ArticleDOI
Extensive variation within the pan-genome of cultivated and wild sorghum.
Yongfu Tao,Hong Luo,Jiabao Xu,Alan Cruickshank,Xianrong Zhao,Fei Teng,Adrian Hathorn,Xiaoyuan Wu,Yuanming Liu,Tracey Shatte,David Jordan,Hai-Chun Jing,Emma S. Mace,Emma S. Mace +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a pan-genome of 44,079 gene families with 222.6 mb of new sequence identified was generated for the sorghum primary gene pool, and the distribution of these variations was influenced by variation of recombination rate and transposable element content across the genome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sweet Sorghum Originated through Selection of Dry, a Plant-Specific NAC Transcription Factor Gene.
Limin Zhang,Chuan-Yuan Leng,Hong Luo,Xiaoyuan Wu,Zhi-Quan Liu,Yu-Miao Zhang,Hong Zhang,Yan Xia,Li Shang,Chun-Ming Liu,Dong-Yun Hao,Yihua Zhou,Chengcai Chu,Hongwei Cai,Hai-Chun Jing +14 more
TL;DR: The results imply that selection for Dry gene mutations was a major step leading to the origin of sweet sorghum, and fine-tuning its regulatory network could provide a molecular tool to control crop stem texture.
Journal ArticleDOI
SorGSD: a sorghum genome SNP database
Hong Luo,Wenming Zhao,Yanqing Wang,Yan Xia,Xiaoyuan Wu,Limin Zhang,Bixia Tang,Junwei Zhu,Lu Fang,Zhenglin Du,Wubishet A. Bekele,Shuaishuai Tai,David Jordan,Ian D. Godwin,Rod J. Snowdon,Emma S. Mace,Hai-Chun Jing,Jingchu Luo +17 more
TL;DR: SorGSD is a comprehensive web-portal providing a database of large-scale genome variation across all racial types of cultivated sorghum and wild relatives and can serve as a bioinformatics platform for a range of genomics and molecular breeding activities for sorghums and for other C4 grasses.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sorghum breeding in the genomic era: opportunities and challenges
Huaiqing Hao,Zhigang Li,Chuan-Yuan Leng,Cheng Lu,Hong Luo,Yuanming Liu,Xiaoyuan Wu,Zhi-Quan Liu,Li Shang,Hai-Chun Jing +9 more
TL;DR: The importance and potential of the multi-purpose crop sorghum in global food security have not yet been fully exploited, and the integration of the state-of-the-art genomics and high-throughput technologies into breeding practice is required as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Transcriptome profiling of developmental leaf senescence in sorghum (Sorghum bicolor).
Xiaoyuan Wu,Wei-Juan Hu,Hong Luo,Yan Xia,Yi Zhao,Li-Dong Wang,Limin Zhang,Jingchu Luo,Hai-Chun Jing +8 more
TL;DR: The monocot C4 model crop Sorghum bicolor is explored for a holistic picture of SAG profiles by RNA-seq, and the candidate orthologues of the known important senescence transcription factors showed “SAG” expression patterns, implicating their possible roles in regulating sorghum leafsenescence.
