TL;DR: In this paper, the authors synthesize existing clay mineralogical and geochemical data from similar to 1500 samples from the seafloor and surrounding rivers, deepwater mooring observation results, and high resolution glacial-cyclic clay mineralogy records from six high-quality sediment cores.
Journal ArticleDOI
Origin of the rhythmic reddish-brown and greenish-gray sediments in the abyssal South China Sea: Implications for oceanic circulation in the late Miocene
TL;DR: In this article, the origin of cyclicity-like color transitions at Site 1502 in the abyssal South China Sea (SCS) was investigated, and it was shown that the occurrence of the cyclicitylike colour transitions could result from the extent of deep-water ventilation in the deep oceanic circulation in the Pacific Ocean.
Journal ArticleDOI
Oligocene evolution of the outermost continental margin in response to breakup and early spreading of the South China Sea
TL;DR: This article conducted sedimentary, geochemical, and mineralogical analyses to a special sequence recovered at IODP Expedition 367 Site U1499 to reconstruct the Oligocene tectono-sedimentary evolution of the outermost margin.
