Piezoelectric Nanoparticle-Assisted Wireless Neuronal Stimulation
Attilio Marino,Attilio Marino,Satoshi Arai,Yanyan Hou,Edoardo Sinibaldi,Mario Pellegrino,Young-Tae Chang,Young-Tae Chang,Barbara Mazzolai,Virgilio Mattoli,Madoka Suzuki,Gianni Ciofani +11 more
TL;DR: Following application of ultrasounds to cells treated with BTNPs, fluorescence imaging of ion dynamics revealed that the synergic stimulation is able to elicit a significant cellular response in terms of calcium and sodium fluxes; moreover, tests with appropriate blockers demonstrated that voltage-gated membrane channels are activated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Optical visualisation of thermogenesis in stimulated single-cell brown adipocytes
Rókus Kriszt,Satoshi Arai,Hideki Itoh,Hideki Itoh,Michelle H. Lee,Anna G. Goralczyk,Xiu Min Ang,Aaron M. Cypess,Aaron M. Cypess,Andrew P. White,Farnaz Shamsi,Ruidan Xue,Jung Yeol Lee,Sung-Chan Lee,Yanyan Hou,Tetsuya Kitaguchi,Thankiah Sudhaharan,Shin'ichi Ishiwata,E. Birgitte Lane,Young-Tae Chang,Young-Tae Chang,Yu-Hua Tseng,Madoka Suzuki,Madoka Suzuki,Michael Raghunath +24 more
TL;DR: The first application of a small molecule-type thermosensitive fluorescent dye, ERthermAC, to monitor thermogenesis in BAs derived from murine brown fat precursors and in human brown fat cells differentiated from human neck brown preadipocytes is reported.
Journal ArticleDOI
Gold Nanoshell-Mediated Remote Myotube Activation
Attilio Marino,Satoshi Arai,Yanyan Hou,Andrea Degl'Innocenti,Valentina Cappello,Barbara Mazzolai,Young-Tae Chang,Young-Tae Chang,Virgilio Mattoli,Madoka Suzuki,Gianni Ciofani,Gianni Ciofani +11 more
TL;DR: Evidence is provided that remote NIR + NS muscle excitation represents an effective wireless stimulation technique with great potential in the fields of muscle tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, and bionics.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ca2+-associated triphasic pH changes in mitochondria during brown adipocyte activation
Yanyan Hou,Tetsuya Kitaguchi,Rókus Kriszt,Yu-Hua Tseng,Michael Raghunath,Madoka Suzuki,Madoka Suzuki +6 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that an increase in mitochondrial pH is implicated as an early event in adrenergically stimulated BAs and suggested that this pH increase may play a role in the potentiation of thermogenesis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Intracellular bottom-up generation of targeted nanosensors for single-molecule imaging
TL;DR: This work proposes a bottom-up approach to generate nanoprobes where four organic dyes are conjugated to tetravalent single-chain avidin (scAVD) proteins via an intracellular click reaction, and demonstrates that the nanoprobs, exhibiting increased brightness and enhanced photostability, were detectable as single dots in living cells.
