Zika Virus Causes Testis Damage and Leads to Male Infertility in Mice
Wenqiang Ma,Shihua Li,Shuoqian Ma,Lina Jia,Fuchun Zhang,Yong Zhang,Jingyuan Zhang,Gary Wong,Shanshan Zhang,Xuancheng Lu,Mei Liu,Jinghua Yan,Wei Li,Chuan Qin,Daishu Han,Cheng-Feng Qin,Na Wang,Xiangdong Li,George F. Gao +18 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that ZIKV can induce inflammation in the testis and epididymidis, but not in the prostate or seminal vesicle, and can lead to damaged testes after 60 days post-infection in mice, and suggests that ZikV infection, under certain circumstances, can eventually lead to male infertility.
Journal ArticleDOI
Melatonin alleviates acute lung injury through inhibiting the NLRP3 inflammasome
Yong Zhang,Xiru Li,Jamison J. Grailer,Na Wang,Mingming Wang,Jianfei Yao,Rui Zhong,George F. Gao,Peter A. Ward,Dun Xian Tan,Xiangdong Li +10 more
TL;DR: Intatracheal administration of melatonin markedly reduced the pulmonary injury and decreased the infiltration of macrophages and neutrophils into lung in an LPS‐induced ALI mouse model, and opening a more efficient therapeutic approach for treating ALI.
Journal ArticleDOI
Conservation and architecture of housekeeping genes in the model marine diatom Thalassiosira pseudonana.
TL;DR: The results indicate that HKGs are highly variable across the tree of life and thus unlikely to be universally fundamental for cellular maintenance, and hypothesize that the distinct genomic features of HKGs of T. pseudonana may be a consequence of selection pressures associated with high expression and low variance across conditions.
