TL;DR: Medication nonadherence was common and was associated with low treatment satisfaction scores and poor psychiatric scores and Medication related factors had insignificant effects on adherence scores.
Abstract: Background: In Arab and Muslim-dominated countries, spirituality and religiosity shape the belief and practices toward chronic illnesses. No previous studies were published to assess adherence to and satisfaction with antipsychotic medications in persons with schizophrenia in the Arab world. Objective: To assess medication adherence and treatment satisfaction with antipsychotics in a sample of Palestinian people with schizophrenia. Methodology: Medication adherence was assessed using the 8-item Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8). Treatment satisfaction was assessed using the Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire for Medication (TSQM 1.4). Psychiatric symptoms were assessed using the expanded Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS-E). Data were entered and statistically analyzed using SPSS 16 for windows. Results: A convenience sample of 131 persons with schizophrenia was studied. Based on MMAS-8, 44 persons (33.6%) had a low rate, 58 (44.3%) had a medium rate and 29 (22.1%) had a high rate of adherence. Age was significantly correlated (P=0.028) with adherence score. However, variables like use of monotherapy or atypical or depot antipsychotics were not significantly associated with higher adherence. The means of satisfaction with regard to effectiveness, side effects, convenience and global satisfaction were 72.6 ± 20.5, 67.9 ± 31.47, 63.2 ± 14.3 and 63.1 ± 18.8 respectively. There was a significant difference in the means of effectiveness (P < 0.01), convenience (P < 0.01), global satisfaction (P < 0.01), but not side effects domains (P=0.1) among persons with different levels of adherence. Furthermore, there was a significant difference in the means of positive symptom score (P < 0.01), manic (P < 0.01) and depression (P < 0.01) but not negative symptom score (P=0.4) among persons with different levels of adherence. Conclusions: Medication nonadherence was common and was associated with low treatment satisfaction scores and poor psychiatric scores. Medication related factors had insignificant effects on adherence scores.

TL;DR: Among diabetic patients undergoing hemodialysis, married status and being employed were associated with modestly higher scores of QOL, and it is recommended that healthcare providers give more attention to diabetic dialysis patients who are unemployed and unmarried, as they are at a higher risk of having impaired HRQOL.
Abstract: Both diabetes and hemodialysis can seriously impair patients’ health related quality of life (HRQOL). This study seeks to obtain data which will help to address the factors associated with impaired HRQOL in hemodialysis patients with diabetes in Palestine. A cross-sectional study was performed in multiple centers in the period from November 2016 to June 2017. We utilized the Arabic version of EuroQoL 5 Dimensions 5 Levels (EQ-5D-5L) scale and EuroQol-visual analogue scale (EQ-VAS) to measure patients’ HRQOL. The study was conducted in six dialysis centers in the North of West Bank, Palestine. Descriptive and comparative statistics were used to describe clinical and socio-demographic features of patients. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to determine the association between clinical and socio-demographic factors and HRQOL score. One hundred and forty one diabetic patients undergoing hemodialysis were enrolled in our study. Overall, 52.5% of them (74 patients) were males; the patients had a mean age of 60.32 with 52.5% of them aged below 60. The mean ± standard deviation of EQ-5D-5L index and EQ-VAS score was 0.314 ± 0.4 and 50.85±22.43, respectively. The findings of this study suggest that female patients, uneducated patients, unemployed patients, unmarried patients, and patients with more chronic diseases and comorbidities had a significant poor HRQOL scores (p values <0.05). Variables such as marital status and occupational status were significantly (p < 0.05) associated with the QOL score. More specifically, married status and employed patients positively associated with QOL score (β = 0.22; p = 0.016 and β = 0.27; p = 0.013, respectively). Among diabetic patients undergoing hemodialysis, married status and being employed were associated with modestly higher scores of QOL. We recommend that healthcare providers give more attention to diabetic dialysis patients who are unemployed and unmarried, as they are at a higher risk of having impaired HRQOL.

01 Feb 2020TL;DR: In this paper, the performance of a hybrid PV-thermal system in a hot climate condition was numerically studied using the k-epsilon turbulence model, and the results showed an increase in the thermal efficiency from 60% up to 68% by increasing the mass flow rates.
Abstract: Hybrid PV- thermal system (PV/T) is used to harvest both electrical and thermal energy from solar radiation Using a hybrid PV/T system improves the electrical efficiency of the PV module while the thermal energy can be used for various heating applications The aim of this work is to numerically study the performance of the PV/T system in a hot climate condition The cooling system of PV/T consists of several channels parallel to each other A novel three-dimensional numerical simulation of the system was performed to study the thermal efficiency The standard k-epsilon turbulence model was used during the simulation This novel system was based on applying different thermal boundary conditions on the sides of one channel rather than simulating the whole cooling system Using one channel simulation allows the creation of a smaller number of meshes, hence, reduces the computational time The thermal efficiency of the PV/T system was calculated using the superposition method for different mass flow rates The results showed an increase in the thermal efficiency from 60% up to 68% by increasing the mass flow rates from 04 - 54 L/min These results were in good agreement with the results in the literature
