TL;DR: In this paper, the critical behavior of systems having a multicritical point of a new type, hereafter called a Lifshitz point, was calculated for anisotropic and isotropic systems.
Abstract: We calculate the critical behavior of systems having a multicritical point of a new type, hereafter called a Lifshitz point, which separates ordered phases with $\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{\mathrm{k}}=0$ and $\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{\mathrm{k}}\ensuremath{ e}0$ along the $\ensuremath{\lambda}$ line. For anisotropic systems, the correlation function is described in terms of four critical exponents, whereas for isotropic systems two exponents suffice. Critical exponents are calculated using an $\ensuremath{\epsilon}$-type expansion.

TL;DR: It is suggested that during periods of highly active epinephrine-induced glycogenolysis in muscle, the Glc-1,6-P2, produced by the cyclic AMP-stimulated reaction of phosphofructokinase with glucose 1-phosphate, will release the phosphoglucomutases from ATP or citrate inhibition, and will depress the activity of muscle type II hexokinase.

TL;DR: In this article, a theory of the resonant x-ray Raman effect is presented and compared with recent experimental data of Sparks, and the potential importance of this newly discovered spectroscopic probe is discussed.
Abstract: A theory of the resonant x-ray Raman effect is presented and compared with recent experimental data of Sparks. Excellent agreement between theory and experiment is found for the integrated intensity of the scattering, the spectral density, and the output polarization. The potential importance of this newly discovered spectroscopic probe is discussed.

TL;DR: In this paper, a microscopic calculation of the memory function of the velocity autocorrelation function in a classical one-component plasma was performed, and the self-diffusion coefficient as a function of density was calculated.
Abstract: We perform a microscopic calculation of the memory function of the velocity autocorrelation function in a classical one-component plasma. Our theory yields oscillatory behavior in the velocity autocorrelation function consistent with recent molecular-dynamics computations. We also calculate the self-diffusion coefficient as a function of density.

TL;DR: The findings show that for both sexes, groups take significantly greater risks than individuals even when risk taking is mediated by aggressive means.
Abstract: This study set out to investigate whether the risky shaft found in group consensus decisions as compared to group members' personal decisions extends to situations that combine risk and aggression. In a between-subjects design, subjects were exposed, either alone or as members of unisex triads, to an experimental task in which the risk entailed severe noxious consequences. The findings show that for both sexes, groups take significantly greater risks than individuals even when risk taking is mediated by aggressive means. The results are seen and discussed as limiting the explanatory scope of the risk-as-a-value hypothesis and as more consistent with the diffusion of responsibility hypothesis. Language: en

TL;DR: In this article, a necessary condition on the moduli of the zeros of a boolean function is obtained, which is the best possible for any function f(z), analytic in the unit disc.
Abstract: The functionf(z), analytic in the unit disc, is inA p if $$\int {\int {_{\left| z \right|< 1} \left| {f(z)} \right|^p dxdy< \infty } } $$ . A necessary condition on the moduli of the zeros ofA p functions is shown to be best possible. The functionf(z) belongs toB p if $$\int {\int {_{\left| z \right|< 1} \log ^ + \left| {f(z)} \right|)^p } } $$ . Let {z n } be the zero set of aB p function. A necessary condition on |z n | is obtained, which, in particular, implies that Σ(1−|z n |)1+(1/p)+g 0 (p≧1). A condition on the Taylor coefficients off is obtained, which is sufficient for inclusion off inB p. This in turn shows that the necessary condition on |z n | is essentially the best possible. Another consequence is that, forq≧1,p

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the relationship of discrimination to interaural temporal asymmetry and showed that the left segment of this function, decreasing as Δt increases from 2 to 8 msec, crosses the 75% discrimination level at a dichotic temporal separation of 6 msec and reflects the breakup of the fused stimulus.
Abstract: Several phenomena are associated with a monotonic increase in interaural temporal asymmetry (Δt) of equally intense auditory stimuli: lateralization of a fused stimulus in the direction of the lead ear, when Δt is in the microsecond range, the subsequent breakup of the fused stimulus with Δt in the millisecond range, followed by temporal order judgments at Δts longer than 20 msec. Two of these binaural phenomena are investigated, using the same experimental paradigm: the breakup of the fused sound into two separately perceived stimuli and the judgment of temporal order. A V-shaped function describes the relationship of discrimination to interaural temporal asymmetry. The left segment of this function, decreasing as Δt increases from 2 to 8 msec, crosses the 75% discrimination level at a dichotic temporal separation of 6 msec and reflects the breakup of the fused stimulus. The right segment of this function, increasing from 12 to 128 msec, crosses the 75% discrimination level at a dichotic temporal separation of 18 msec, reflecting temporal order discrimination. The data are discussed in terms of the literature on temporal order judgments, and considered in terms of an overall framework which assumes that all of the phenomena which occur as a function of increased Δt result from different processing operations on the temporal continuum separating the dichotic stimuli (Sternberg & Knoll, 1973).

TL;DR: The highest spore production of Stemphylium botryosum f.lycopersici on tomato leaves during a 24-h wetting period occurred in continuous darkness, and ofAlternaria porri f.
Abstract: The highest spore production ofStemphylium botryosum f. sp.lycopersici on tomato leaves during a 24-h wetting period occurred in continuous darkness, and ofAlternaria porri f. sp.solani on potato leaves in a 12-h dark period which had been preceded by a 12-h light period. Sporulation of both pathogens was inhibited by illumination during the entire wetting period or during the last 12 h of it. In inhibitory conditions spore yield increased with a decrease in the incubation temperature and as tested withA. porri f. sp. solani, also with lowered light intensity.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that there is a two step action of Valinomycin, at 10-6M and below the drug has no effect on the 42K exchange, but it stops, however reversibly, protein synthesis.
Abstract: In this work we consider the differential effect of Valinomycin used at different concentrations both on the protein synthesis of reticulocytes and on 42K exchange. We demonstrate that there is a two step action of this antibiotic. At 10-6M and below the drug has no effect on the 42K exchange, but it stops, however reversibly, protein synthesis. At 10-5M the drug has a very sharp action on the 42K exchange and stops protein synthesis in an irreversible way.
