TL;DR: In this paper, the authors observed a narrow enhancement near 2m(p) in the invariant mass spectrum of pp pairs from radiative J/psi-->gammapp decays.
Abstract: We observe a narrow enhancement near 2m(p) in the invariant mass spectrum of pp pairs from radiative J/psi-->gammapp decays. No similar structure is seen in J/psi-->pi(0)pp decays. The results are based on an analysis of a 58 x 10(6) event sample of J/psi decays accumulated with the BESII detector at the Beijing electron-positron collider. The enhancement can be fit with either an S- or P-wave Breit-Wigner resonance function. In the case of the S-wave fit, the peak mass is below 2m(p) at M=1859(+3)(-10) (stat)+5-25(syst) MeV/c(2) and the total width is Gamma<30 MeV/c(2) at the 90% confidence level. These mass and width values are not consistent with the properties of any known particle.

TL;DR: In this article, the synthesis of a new reagent, saturated fatty hydrocarbon substituting group compound N-n-hexyl-N-′-(sodium p-aminobenzenesulfonate) thiourea (HXPT), is described.
Abstract: The synthesis of a new reagent, saturated fatty hydrocarbon substituting group compound N-n-hexyl-N ′-(sodium p-aminobenzenesulfonate) thiourea (HXPT), is described. The interactions between HXPT and bovine serum albumin or human serum albumin were studied by fluorescence spectroscopy. The binding constants of HXPT with BSA or HSA were determined at different temperatures under the optimum conditions. The binding sites were obtained and the acting force were suggested to be mainly hydrophobic. The effect of common ions on the binding constants was also investigated. A practical method was proposed for the determination of HXPT in bovine serum or human serum samples.

TL;DR: This article sets out to present computer assisted word acquisition which operationalises current theoretical thinking about word acquisition, and result in high efficiency.
Abstract: Functional language proficiency requires mastery of a considerably larger number of words. It is therefore necessary to learn a large vocabulary in a short period of time. There is not enough time to copy the natural word acquisition process. There appears to be no alternative to intentional learning of a great many new words in a relatively short period of time. This article sets out to present computer assisted word acquisition which operationalises current theoretical thinking about word acquisition, and result in high efficiency.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors considered the rare top quark decays in the framework of the top-color-assisted technicolor (TC2) model and found that the contributions of top-pions and top-Higgs-bosons predicted by the TC2 model can enhance the SM branching ratios by as much as 6\char21{}9 orders of magnitude.
Abstract: We consider the rare top quark decays in the framework of the top-color-assisted technicolor (TC2) model. We find that the contributions of top-pions and top-Higgs-bosons predicted by the TC2 model can enhance the SM branching ratios by as much as 6\char21{}9 orders of magnitude; i.e., in the extreme case, the orders of magnitude of branching ratios are $Br(\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{t}cg)\ensuremath{\sim}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}5},$ $Br(\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{t}cZ)\ensuremath{\sim}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}5},$ $Br(\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{t}c\ensuremath{\gamma})\ensuremath{\sim}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}7}.$ With reasonable values of the parameters in the TC2 model, such rare top quark decays may be testable in future experiments. Therefore, rare top quark decays provide a unique way to test the TC2 model.

TL;DR: Eight new solid complexes of pipemidic acid with trichlorizated rare earth metals with antibacterial activities show that PPA and its complexes all have inhibitory action against bacteria of Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa but not Staphylococcus aureus.
Abstract: Eight new solid complexes of pipemidic acid (PPA) with trichlorizated rare earth metals LaCl(3), CeCl(3), PrCl(3), NdCl(3), SmCl(3), TbCl(3), DyCl(3), and YCl(3) have been synthesized. The complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, IR, NMR, and molar conductance measurements. The general formulas of the complexes are [M(PPA)(4)]Cl(3) (M=Ce(III), Pr(III), Nd(III), Sm(III), Tb(III), Dy(III), Y(III)), and [La(PPA)(4)Cl]Cl(2). At the same time, the antibacterial activities of PPA and four of its complexes were tested. The results show that PPA and its complexes all have inhibitory action against bacteria of Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa but not Staphylococcus aureus. We compared their antibacterial activities and found that the antibacterial activity of [La(PPA)(4)Cl]Cl(2) against S. pneumoniae is much stronger than that of PPA and the other complexes.

TL;DR: In the context of the littlest Higgs (LH) model, this paper showed that the correction effects on the Higgsstrahlung process mainly come from the heavy photon.
Abstract: In the context of the littlest Higgs (LH) model, we consider the Higgsstrahlung process ${e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\mathrm{ZH}.$ We find that the correction effects on this process mainly come from the heavy photon ${B}^{\ensuremath{'}}.$ If we take the mixing angle parameter c in the range of 0.75\char21{}1, the contributions of the heavy gauge boson ${W}_{3}^{\ensuremath{'}}$ are larger than 6%. In most of the parameter space, the deviation of the total production cross section ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}^{\mathrm{tot}}$ from its SM value is larger than 5%, which may be detected in future high energy ${e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ collider (LC) experiments. The future LC experiments could test the LH model by measuring the cross section of the process ${e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\mathrm{ZH}.$

TL;DR: In this paper, the one-loop supersymmetric QCD and electroweak (SUSY-QCD) corrections to the top quark decay into a b quark and a longitudinal or transverse W boson were investigated.
Abstract: We investigate the one-loop supersymmetric QCD (SUSY-QCD) and electroweak (SUSY-EW) corrections to the top quark decay into a b quark and a longitudinal or transverse W boson. The corrections are presented in terms of the longitudinal ratio $\ensuremath{\Gamma}(\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{t}{W}_{L}b)/\ensuremath{\Gamma}(\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{t}Wb)$ and the transverse ratio $\ensuremath{\Gamma}(\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{t}{W}_{\ensuremath{-}}b)/\ensuremath{\Gamma}(\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{t}Wb).$ In most of the parameter space, both SUSY-QCD and SUSY-EW corrections to these ratios are found to be less than 1% in magnitude and they tend to have opposite signs. The corrections to the total width $\ensuremath{\Gamma}(\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{t}Wb)$ are also presented for comparison with the existing results in the literature. We find that our SUSY-EW corrections to the total width differ significantly from previous studies: the previous studies give a large correction of more than 10% in magnitude for a large part of the parameter space while our results reach only few percent at most.

TL;DR: In this paper, two body charmless decays of mesons to light vector mesons were analyzed under the framework of QCD factorization, and the branching ratios of some channels were measured.
Abstract: The two body charmless decays of ${B}_{s}$ mesons to light vector mesons are analyzed within the framework of QCD factorization. This approach implies that the nonfactorizable corrections to different helicity amplitudes are not the same. The effective parameters ${a}_{i}^{h}$ for helicity $h=0,+,\ensuremath{-}$ states receive different nonfactorizable contributions and hence are helicity dependent, contrary to the naive factorization approach where ${a}_{i}^{h}$ are universal and polarization independent. The branching ratios for ${B}_{s}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\mathrm{VV}$ decays are calculated and we find that the branching ratios of some channels are of the order of ${10}^{\ensuremath{-}5},$ which are measurable at future experiments. The transverse to total decay rate ${\ensuremath{\Gamma}}_{T}/\ensuremath{\Gamma}$ is also evaluated and found to be very small for most decay modes; so, in charmless ${B}_{s}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\mathrm{VV}$ decays, both light vector mesons tend to have zero helicity.

TL;DR: A rapid and sensitive flow-injection spectrophotometric method is proposed for the determination of sulfadiazine and sulfamethoxazole based on the diazotization of sulfonamide with sodium nitrite, and a coupling reaction of the diazo-compound with alpha-naphthylamine.
Abstract: A rapid and sensitive flow-injection spectrophotometric method is proposed for the determination of sulfadiazine and sulfamethoxazole. This method is based on the diazotization of sulfonamide with sodium nitrite, and a coupling reaction of the diazo-compound with α-naphthylamine. The optimum experimental conditions are obtained by using the controlled and weighted centroid simplex method. The linear ranges for the determination of sulfadiazine and sulfamethoxazole are 0.2 - 20 μg ml-1 and 0.1 - 20 μg ml-1 and their detection limits are 0.06 μg ml-1 and 0.05 μg ml-1, respectively, and the sampling frequency is 130 samples per hour. The method has been used to determine sulfadiazine and sulfamethoxazole in pharmaceuticals and urine without separation. The results are in agreement with those obtained by a high-performance liquid chromatograph technique at the 95% confidence level.

TL;DR: In this article, a neutral top-pion detection in the top-color-assisted technicolor (TC2) model with clean background was shown to achieve high c.m. energy.
Abstract: We study a neutral top-pion production process $\ensuremath{\gamma}\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{\ensuremath{\gamma}}f\overline{f}{\ensuremath{\Pi}}_{t}^{0}(f=t,b)$ in the top-color-assisted technicolor (TC2) model. We find that the cross section of $\ensuremath{\gamma}\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{\ensuremath{\gamma}}t\overline{t}{\ensuremath{\Pi}}_{t}^{0}$ is much larger than that of $\ensuremath{\gamma}\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{\ensuremath{\gamma}}b\overline{b}{\ensuremath{\Pi}}_{t}^{0}.$ On the other hand, the cross section can be obviously enhanced with increasing the c.m. energy. With $\sqrt{s}=1600\mathrm{GeV},$ the cross section of $t\overline{t}{\ensuremath{\Pi}}_{t}^{0}$ production can reach the level of a few fb. The results show that $\ensuremath{\gamma}\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{\ensuremath{\gamma}}t\overline{t}{\ensuremath{\Pi}}_{t}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}t\overline{t}(t\overline{c})$ is the most ideal channel to detect a neutral top-pion due to the clean standard model (SM) background. With such sufficient signals and clean background, a neutral top-pion could be detected at DESY TESLA with a high c.m. energy.

TL;DR: In this article, a reverse-phase HPLC with fluorescence detection was proposed for the determination of alkylphenols (APs), including 4-nonylphenol (4-NP) and 4-tert-octylphenol(4-t-OP), and their short ethoxyl chain polyethoxylates (SEC-APEOs) in environmental aqueous samples.
Abstract: Microporous membrane liquid-liquid extraction (MMLLE) sample pretreatment coupled with reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection (HPLC-FLD) was proposed for the determination of alkylphenols (APs), including 4-nonylphenol (4-NP) and 4-tert-octylphenol (4-t-OP), and their short ethoxyl chain polyethoxylates (SEC-APEOs) in environmental aqueous samples. After MMLLE, 4-NP, 4-t-OP, and SEC-APEOs were trapped in hexane used as acceptor. The hexane with enriched analytes was purged to dryness with nitrogen gas. Methanol (0.6 mL) and then water (1.4 mL) were added to dissolve the residue and the analytes were subsequently focused onto a C-18 precolumn prior to injection onto the analytical column for separation and detection by reversed-phase HPLC-FLD. The proposed procedure permits convenient determination of APs and SEC-APEOs, which have similar endocrine activity and appear as a single peak in reversed-phase HPLC. The detection limits for 4-NP and 4-t-OP were 0.1 and 0.05 mug/L, respectively. Four samples including tap water, river water, and effluent from a sewage treatment works water were analyzed by the proposed method and the recoveries at 0.5 mug/L spiked level were in the range of 74-110%.
